<p>Just wondering what my chances are for UT-Austin. Here are the stats.</p>

<p>Out-of-state student from Mississippi. Small rural community with high school of 600 students. I plan to major in music ed, but I don't suppose that's important for this.</p>

<p>GPA Unweighted: 3.95
GPA Weighted: 4.104
ACT: 26 (27 superscored)
SAT: N/A
Rank: Est. 3rd or 4th out of roughly 150 (Top 2% or 3% I suppose)</p>

<p>Currently a junior (high school class of 2013)</p>

<p>(Classes I have taken/will take by graduation)
Honors classes
Eng 1, 2, and 4
Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry</p>

<p>AP classes
World History
Government/Economics
English 3</p>

<p>Other courses
Spanish I and II
Concert and marching band, 4 years</p>

<p>Extracurricular stuff
Like I mentioned, band (concert, marching, jazz) for four years
Beta Club (3 years; freshman, sophomore, junior years)
Quiz Bowl/Scholar's Bowl, 4 years</p>

<p>So no community service hours except for the bare minimum required for graduation from my high school (50 hours). But here's the big shiny, stand-out thing:</p>

<p>Mississippi Lions All-State Band (cream of the crop in my state)
I'm a sax player in it. They take six sax players (out of about 50 that audition each year)
The MS Lions Band are international champions. Have won the annual competition for the world's Lions Bands 8 times out of the past 9 years.</p>

<p>So what do you think? I also want to audition for the school of fine arts, but that's a separate thing. I have to get in first. But if you have any comments on that, I'll gladly take any advice.</p>

<p>ECs look pretty good (esp since you want to be a music ed major and most of your ECs are focused towards that). Austin’s middle 50% range for ACT is 25 - 31 so maybe if you could bump up your score a little bit you’d be pretty good. But of course being OOS makes it a lot harder (i’m in the same in the position) good luck though! chance me back please</p>

<p>ha It turns out we chanced each other at the same time, not yet seeing each other’s posts. That’s ironic. Thanks. I’ll be retaking the ACT for sure in April. I appreciation it.</p>
