UT Austin

I am considering going to UT Austin as a freshman undergraduate engineering student next year. I know that only 8% of students are from out of state and I wanted to know if being someone not from Texas will make me feel left out/ stand out. I was also wondering about the diversity on campus - Is it noticeably diverse?

I doubt it. Texas is a big state. Many instate students feel as if they are from a long way away. You should fit in as well as you do anywhere else. Yes, it is very diverse.

Yes, it’s pretty diverse! While only about 5-10% of students are black, there are a lot of Asian and Hispanic/Latinx students at UT.

I think it’ll be a little bit different, but Texas is a big state and most of the students are from Dallas or Houston (each 3 hours away from Austin.) Everyone’s getting used to living somewhere knew, so you’ll be in the same boat as them. Good luck making your choice! I go to UT right now and it’s 4 hours from my hometown, but I love the campus.

Another thing about Austin is that it’s a a city of transplants. A large percentage of the population are expatriates of other states, so don’t worry about fitting in, because you’re from “somewhere else”.
