UT Business Honors Program

Congrats on the interview request! @BigPapiofthree

Congratulations and I am so exited that my S also got one today. I will review last year blogs to see the possibility of getting into program once we get the interview. Good luck everyone!

Now that my son had an interview, BHP is suddenly on my radar. Does anyone know how many students get offered acceptance each year, how many enroll, and what percent is OOS? Does getting an interview raise one’s chances? any info would be appreciated, and OOS info even more so…Thanks in advance

@BigPapiofthree

Last year, out of 1688 applicants, 242 were accepted, and roughly 125-150 enroll each year (so there’s about 500 students in BHP across all four years of college). It’s also my understanding (though I could be wrong) that one cannot be accepted to BHP if they do not receive an interview; however, interviews do not guarantee acceptance to BHP. The average ACT is a 34 composite, and the average BHP student was in the top 2.2% of his or her high school class.

I don’t have any information about OOS, but I hope some of this helps!

@anaphoras, that is helpful, and thanks so much…I wonder how many get interviews…will just have to wait and see

Ugh… I’m getting kind of scared because I have not received an interview yet! I fit right within the averages for UT BHP, so do you think it’s too late or no??

@Anaphoras, an interview is required to be admitted.

@longhornpride123, interviews will still be offered into early next year. But chances go down if applied by the priority date and didn’t get an interview within the first 2-3 weeks. Read that initial acceptances come out around the Thanksgiving break (week before?).

With a child already in BHP, my experience is that very few get in the week of Thanksgiving and emails are sent out the first week of Dec with either denials or deferrals. My current BHP child doesn’t personally know anyone in the program who was accepted in Nov but believes that some may have been…it seems most current students were all deferred in Dec and accepted in Feb. Also, this year’s timing hasn’t exactly matched that of prior years so no one should be discouraged

@CollegeParent123, are you saying everyone gets a denial or deferral in early December?

UTs web site says “The benefit of applying by the BHP Priority Deadline is earlier notification of the status of your application (typically early December)”.

I would be surprised if students weren’t admitted in November/early December. I could be wrong…

If I can find a thread from a year ago, I’ll see when students received acceptances and post.

Here is a student saying they were admitted via a phone call on November 24th (from 2013 though).

This one says students received acceptances “the Monday before Thanksgiving”

Also many students reported being accepted into BHP around November 23/24 2015. Some calls came from BHP Director, some calls came from alumni.

In the past, acceptances to McCombs and other majors started rolling out in December. However, UT BHP acceptances were sent around the Monday before Thanksgiving before people’s My Status page changed to show that they had been admitted to a major. So who knows? Maybe someone should call the UT BHP admissions to see if they will tell us when they are planning on releasing their decisions."

Again, some students were accepted in Nov. but many, many more were deferred and accepted in Feb. So no one should be discouraged if they don’t get accepted in November.

Though we got an email from BHP for the selection of an interview, we have not received any subsequent call for the date of interview. Do you know if we need to send them the window or we can wait for them to reach us via another email or phone? Please share your thoughts. Thank you

The interviewer emailed a few days after the initial interview email request.

I spoke to BHP office today. I had some questions. My son got email yesterday, and one hour later his interview sent an email He was leaving the country and did the interview yesterday as well. Office said They would begin notices in December. Said they will interview twice as many as get accepted. So if you get the call, you have a fifty fifty chance I guess. Sounds like they will give interviews to top 500 applicants or so…Said they get up to 2000 applicants in a year. OOS kids comprised about 18% last year. That is all i know

If I haven’t gotten an interview yet, do you think it’s too late and that I probably got denied?

@longhornpride123: I do not loose the hope yet. Last year they sent the interview notices until the middle of November. Good Luck!

@longhornpride123, I do not have the knowledge to answer your question. Sorry and good luck. Call the BHP office and make inquiry…Timing of application may matter, as well as other factors. I am not an expert. Still trying to learn more myself…

We got the selection for interview notification and still waiting for the next email for scheduling/. It has been already 4 days and I am not sure what is going on? Any one has similar experience to share please?

@Trying4BHP, received email from Alumni of interview selection on Oct. 27th. Swapped a couple of emails with Alumni and did phone interview on Oct 29th.
