UT Dallas Class of 2025-Admissions/Discussions Thread

UTD priority deadline was December 1st, if you don’t hear anything longer than 2 months you can call them. If you applied regular admission, it is kind of rolling basis until May 1st. You can contact them via your galaxy links they are pretty responsive. If you apply via Common App, it is always good to contact UTD directly to see if anything missing.

I’m also waiting for the NMF status and praying for money. The UTD and TAMU NMF package is so tempting but i’m already committing to cockrell and unfortunately UT doesn’t care about NM

Thank you very much. My son called them today and they said we can expect decision in 2 weeks.

Don’t you still have to list one school as your first choice with NM Corporation? If so, is it UTD? Does UTD still give a full ride for NMF like UH and OU?

Yes need to list first choice. But when asking UTD lately on any NMF award changes no one gives me straight answers. Very different from the time I attended their BMEN show case in 2019 summer. UTD web site is displaying outdated information.

Yes, they still give close to a full ride. It’s maybe a few hundred dollars short, but very close to the cost of tuition plus room and board. My D21 got a letter from them last month confirming this.

Also, from what I recall, OU no longer offers a full ride. Make sure you look into what they offer specifically this year.

I’m blanking on UH – what does that stand for?

UH = U of Houston
Fun fact…Dick Van Horn, the president of UH, started full rides for NMS in 1986. Roughly four years later he went to OU where he started the same program and they became the #1 school for NMS until many others got into the competition.

I see that currently “the University of Houston will automatically award scholarship support to cover the cost of tuition and required fees, including a $1000 undergraduate research stipend and a $2000 study abroad stipend.” No R&B reimbursement. They want to spread around the money to more students through Tier 1 scholarships.

Aha! Thank you. (nvm, I see that you indicated no R&B).

I just checked OU, and here’s the page where they estimate out of pocket expenses for both in state and OOS NMFS:

National Merit Finalist Scholarship (ou.edu)

Wow, OU dramatically cut their NM scholarship. I suppose they’ve diverted some of their funds to scholarships for high achieving but not tip-top applicants.

Alabama still seems to give full rides +.

Florida schools seem to have the best NM packages right now. Full ride plus. (Just in case you were looking.)

All the money Bama got after winning so many many championships…

May I ask who she contacted to get the award confirmation for NMF? Thanks

She didn’t contact anyone. It just came in the mail.

My DS got it too. It basically confirms that is it the same amount that is on the website.

hey everyone! in-state student applying to biomedical engineering. completed an application in late november. 35 act (33 math, 36 science, 36 reading, 36 english), 105.6 weighted gpa, class rank 1/521, and 9 ap exams (physics 1 (5), chemistry (5), lang and composition (5), world history (5), french (5), biology (5), human geo (5), environmental science (5), and US history (4)). application was submitted november 27 and still haven’t heard anything back. anyone who applied around the same time frame have decisions back yet?

My son applied Nov 1st and heard back by the 15th out of state using common app.

It’s strange that you have not heard back. For UT Dallas, you would be an auto-admit, and with your statistics, you should get your major choice almost immediately. Could you email the adcom to ask about the status? Do they need some paperwork from you to consider your application complete?
