UT Engineering Info

Hi all,

I know for certain that I want to go to UT for a discipline of engineering. I recently looked at the Computational Engineering degree, released in 2016, and was drawn to it, but only 30/300 students were accepted into it for the first class. This makes me doubt whether it is logical to apply (it might be so incredibly competitive). If so, would it make more sense to opt for more well filled majors like electrical or mechanical? In UT’s case, does a more filled major mean a higher probability for getting a seat, more competition because you are competing with more people, or both? Basically, what majors should I apply to if I want to have the best chances of being accepted? Could you guys comment any stories you might have about engineering majors and UT?

All of the engineering majors at UT are competitive to get in. Apply to the one that you really want to do and hopefully your desire will show in the application process. All of the students that are accepted into engineering are going to have competitive stats as well as many that do not get accepted. I think the process, after they determine you do have the stats, will be more holistic. They will be looking for a good essay. They want to see related ECs. They also want diversity. My advice is to go for the major you want and show some passion for it.
