A little background information on me:

state marching band champ, multiple sport athlete in HS

graduated with a BS in exercise science from a different university

currently active duty in the Coast Guard within a technical rating (electrician's mate)

possess several letters of recommendation

plan on completing Calculus 1, and 2 before applying

So, here's the deal. It was unfortunate that I had to graduate college with that powder puff degree in order to realize what I truly wanted to do. Become an engineer, of course! I enjoy math, and although I haven't taken any high level courses, it has always seemed to "click" with me. So, based on the criteria I have listed above, what do you think my chances of getting accepted into the Mechanical Engineering program are? What could I do to up my chances of acceptance? I can write one hell of an essay and/or cover letter, too. The biggest thing I worry about is my former GPA (3.2 college, 3.5 HS). Will this have a severe impact on my application? I was bored and unmotivated, and now I deeply regret it! Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.

p.s.- I'm talking about the University of Texas, not Tennessee :)
