How long does each essay have to be? It gives no indication whatsoever as to how long they should be. I'm guessing one is 250, the other is 500, but anyone know for sure?

BeALonghorn suggests that each is no longer than one single-spaced page (about 500 words) unless you are applying for a special program.

Plan II Honors asks that each essay is 300-800 words.

My essays were both about 650 I believe. I was actually accepted before I submitted my essays because of the top ten law, but then submitted them to be considered for Plan II.

Hope this helps.

thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for! Also, I was wondering if for the first essay it has to be someone I know personally, or if it can be a famous athlete that I don't know personally, but has still inspired me (Michael Jordan in my case)

It doesn't specify, so open to anything i guess.

Anything beats writing about a relative, i guesstimate about 40% of UT applicants wrote about a relative

Well I wrote about a relative and got in to Plan II Honors. It really doesn't matter as long as it is well written and talks about YOU! It really isn't about the person who inspired you, but about how you react to their inspiration.

when are the essays due?

whenever the application is due. Usually February 1.
