UT (Health Science Scholars Program) vs Washington University in St. Louis

Hey guys, so I'm still trying to decide between these two schools. Although UT Health Science Scholars program is going to be 85K for four years and Wash-u will be 128K for four years, money is not a significant factor for me. I am pre-med and want to go to a school where I will be able to get a great GPA and have time to study for the MCAT. I visited both schools and WUSTL is obviously better in prestige and aesthetics but is it significantly more challenging and will I be more likely to drop out of the pre-med track at WUSTL than at UT? Is it harder to get a high GPA at WUSTL than at UT? I was also accepted into a 7yr bs/md program, but it is in my hometown and the med school is not prestigious. What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance!!

Hey, @nervousenior, you clearly had a great problem if you’d to choose between UT HSS & WUSTL! Congratulations! Just curious as to what you ended up choosing, how you arrived at your decision, and how do you feel about it just about 3 years since?! Will be great to hear from you.

WUSTL is a good school, UT is a great school. Go to UT! Even though Texas’ prestige is higher, prestige is mostly irrelevant for med school apps. You will work your tail off anywhere you go if you want to go to med school.

How well you do in school, requisite class preparation, and MCAT scores are the defining factors. If you think you are likely to drop out of a program, you are more likely to do so. And it would follow that your choices should include schools where you embrace the positive challenge to be the best you can be. You should get some better advisement as you continue your preparation.

Guys, this was almost 3 years ago…
