I had my phone interview with an alumni.
@squid77 what type of questions were asked during the interview?
When do decisions start to come out? I am OOS and I applied by the priority deadline and I already had my interview.
@wdamidge ive heard that the decisions start coming out near the end of november and early december
My son applied on 9/26. However, we are OOS and his high school has had very few students apply to UT, so the guidance counselor called to ensure it was acceptable to mail his letters of recommendation. The letters arrived on 10/14, but unfortunately weren’t logged correctly. So he’s had to go back and re-send using the online portal. We’ll see what happens! It’s frustrating that the letters didn’t get where they were supposed to go, but he has a good attitude about it. No interview at this point.
We toured UT and did the separate McCombs tour/info session in February. He really enjoyed the tour, as it showed him exactly how he could pursue his career goals (he’s interested in business and biology.) So fingers crossed.
@MountainGrl did you call the admissions office to see if your son’s application was sent in before or after the priority deadline?
My son emailed his admissions counselor. The documents show up in My Documents as having been received 10/14. However, the admissions counselor referred my son to an adviser with BHP, who said that unfortunately the BHP recommendation must be uploaded. The BHP adviser said they would “code” his mailed BHP recommendation for BHP, but that he would not be considered by the priority deadline, but would give him the same consideration. So we’ll see. A week later, it’s still not showing as there. As I said, he’s bummed because he delivered his application so early (9/26), but has a good attitude about it.
BTW, the guidance counselor at his HS called BHP about it earlier this week and she is now uploading his recommendations just to make sure he’s covered in case the “coding” doesn’t go through. So he should be set, even if he misses out on priority.
Should add: Upshot of this is that if you are applying to BHP, ensure that your recommendation is uploaded through the online portal and not mailed. The admissions office may tell your HS counselor otherwise, but that’s not correct.

@MountainGrl best of luck to your son! (and yes, uploading your letter of reccomendation to the mystatus page is instant compared to having the counselor send it.) great advice for all bhp applicants!
Hi, I have applied to BHP and Engineering Honors and submitted both of my apps on October 13th. When can I hear back at the earliest? I gave my BHP alumni interview 3 weeks ago!!
End of November? December? When is the earliest batch released?

@texanhowler check out this thread from two years ago; these applicants received decisions at the end of november, around thanksgiving.
just had my interview today, probably at least a month until I get a decision
It appears from previous years that some offers start coming End of November…
Would be interesting to know if they make & communicate decisions on all that were interviewed in November.
I take it candidates that are not accepted are either differed or declined.
Do they communicate to them as well?

I was contacted to set up an interview today. Does everyone who applies to BHP get an interview? And does getting notified about an interview guarantee admission into McCombs?
@GriffBaum , Not everyone who applies receives an interview. It is thought that getting an interview means that you will eventually be admitted to McCombs. Did you apply priority?
Thanks for the response! Yes I applied priority but I am not expecting to get into BHP considering I’m OOS and my stats aren’t very good for BHP… But I am hoping at least to get into McCombs and was wondering if being selected for an interview means anything for admission into McCombs
Well since only a certain percentage of all BHP applicants are selected to interview, I think you are in good shape. I know of people with excellent stats who didn’t get a BHP interview so they probably saw something in you (even if you don’t see it yourself). I think it’s safe to say that you’re admitted to McCombs.
