Of course there are no guarantees as regards college admissions, but all along I have believed that I have a reasonable chance of getting into BHP (2340 SAT, top 1%, good community service, decent leadership positions in school clubs but no stellar extra-curricular achievements). I did priority filing and I have been admitted to McCombs but I want to know if anyone has received a BHP acceptance yet. Based on last year’s thread, it appears that McCombs had already started contacting the selected BHP priority filers by this time last year.
No one has reported getting a decision yet. Interviews but no decisions. Someone reported that they have heard the process is slightly behind this year from last. Good luck!
BHP sent out emails and said results would start in mid december
Just got a phone call today accepting me into the UT BHP class of 2021!! I also got into Plan II on Saturday!

Are you inState or OOS? wondering if any OOS students got acceptances yet?
Could you tell us the content of the call? Was everyone contacted today or could more calls be coming tomorrow?
S got call around 6:30 pm PST. We are OOS. Head of admission called to tell him and congratulate him. Said letters would go out tomorrow, and we should get ours this weekend due to distance…
I submitted my app and had my interview prior to yours, should I be expecting a phone call or an email soon?
My D got call yesterday. Admitted into BHP and we are oos. Over the moon. Now trying to figure out how to get instate tuition… Congrats to those who have heard and good luck to those still waiting
@tarheelmtmom There is a wonderful and supportive Facebook page for TexasParents once your child attends. From seeing the posts, it is definitely do-able to gain in state tuition after the first year and I understand the University is very open to helping OOS through the process. Based on how common this experience seems to be from seeing the posts on FB, I wouldn’t hesitate to contact the admissions office and ask for the correct contact at UT to get advice.
Can anyone comment on importance of class rank for BHP admissions? My son has good ACT (35), GPA and SAT scores but class rank is in top 5% not 1 or 2%. He is at a top Austin High school. How much does that matter for BHP admissions?
S was accepted to BHP with a 6% class rank and comparable scores to your son. In my opinion leadership and rigor of courses accounted for any deficit (crazy to call it that!) in rank. Also from a top high school.
BHP does a pretty good job of stating their “typical” admit. Leadership does indeed play a large role, so an applicant who isn’t in the top 2% with a 34 can still find success
See the slideshow in the righthand column: https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/BHP/Admissions/Application-Requirements
I think Kevin is dead on. Considering how few OOS kids get accepted(approximated 18 a year enrolled), I attribute my S good fortune to his leadership. Class president 3 years, School President this year. Letter’s of rec. spoke to his leadership. I am sure there are higher stat kids than mine who might not get in…I do believe this process is really holistic…
Excited for all who got in. We aren’t sure what to expect on this end. D is an auto-admit in state, admitted to McCombs and Plan II Honors. Completed BHP app before Oct 15 and received emails with updates on BHP timelines as if we were in early group but noticed that teacher rec not dated until November 16. D has not received an interview, acceptance call or defer/deny email. They must still be plugging away. Her stats are above the average stated in the link that @KevinRMartin provided as she is 35, 1530, high up in non-ranking school, 4.3/4.0 and all A’s in all honors and AP classes at a very competitive school but still BHP crickets.
Congrats collegeparent123. My S with similar stats like your S was deferred yesterday via email. So the waiting continues.
It is interesting that several of my S’s friends who applied to BHP, but for whom BHP wasn’t the first choice, got acceptance. They had similar stats as my S. Those friends will be going to Ivys and other top schools and not attending BHP. It feels like BHP’s average SAT, ACT and CRs acceptance scores are pushed up by many who never join BHP. Perhaps BHP should allow a binding, early decision option for applicants with BHP as their top choice.
@ou812 It’s the same stat game that every school pays. They publish the stats of their admitted pool but none ever publish the stats of their acceptances. It is the sole reason for all the “golden admission” invitations that these high performers get from schools that they likely wouldn’t attend. Binding just takes the control away from the applicants and towards the school and is, in my opinion, never in the applicants best interest. The schools know their yields and offer acceptances accordingly so even if an applicant who will never attend applies, it really isn’t changing the acceptance outcome unless the historical yields don’t prove accurate. At least, that is how I see it until someone here proves me wrong:)
CollegeParent123, agree with what you said, except the “taking the control away” part. Binding Early Decision(ED) ‘quota’ is usually a small percent of total admits. They can be helpful for students who have, after carefully considering academic quality, acceptance criteria, geography, cost-of -living etc., narrowed down to a school as being their #1 choice. ED likely makes the process less stressful and fairer for these serious, determined candidates. Others can still use the regular decision path.
