Not to hijack the thread, but I was recently alerted to another puzzling college ranking–new world rankings from Times Higher Education, which UT was not ranked among the top 200 schools according to their criteria. [Top 200 - The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2010-2011](World University Rankings 2010-11 | Times Higher Education (THE))

This omission comes after having ranked UT as high as 50-something a few years ago and while other (current) rankings put the university as high as #38 in the world (and no lower than #76).

Particularly outrageous about it is that bottom-tier schools like Hawaii, Drexel, and Kent State made the list, as well as lower-tier big publics like Utah, UMass, and Arizona State. It’s almost like they just forgot UT altogether.

In any case, it’s bad press (or rather, a lack of press) for UT as these rankings are evidently quite popular.
