UT or UTD?

Hi, I have been admited to neuroscience for ut and cognitive science for utd. I’m having trouble with which would be a better investment. My parents are willing to pay for either but since I have a 6k per year scholarship to Dallas my parents said they will put that 6k in investments for me to use for graduate school. All else aside which would be better for getting into neural engineering or computational neuroscience post grad. At utd I’d have the flexibility of majors since there is the ability to switch to bioengineering or take the AI concentration in cognitive science while UT would keep me encompasses in neuroscience since internal transfer to bme is so tough. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

You are receiving 6k for tuition or are you also receiving a tuition waiver at UTD apart from 6k?

6K for tuition

My vote would be UTD, $24K is a lot of money.

UTD is becoming the school for such things. ^ and there is that $24K.

Okay thanks for all the input. Would I be better off with bme or the computational modeling concentration in cogsci

Not sure.
Are you taking on loans or can your parents afford all of it, without loans?
Are you in Collegium V at UTD?
Grad school in neuroscience should be funded - or it’s not worth going. In other words, you’d get a tuition waiver and a stipend so the 6K wouldn’t really matter that much. So that shouldn’t be part of the equation.
Are the 6K going to make a difference or not?

Parents can afford both schools. I applied to some other reach schools, too but I’m not considering them much because they are so hard to get into and so expensive for a upper middle class family to pay for

UTD is the better choice. Simply put, if you plan on going to grad school go with the cheaper option. Besides, UTD is one of the fastest growing universities in the country so you won’t be losing too much not going to Austin.

UTD is known for having a limited social scene and is a commuter school, so if you can handle that then I’d recommend UTD

Fastest-growing doesn’t mean much, and could be a huge problem in the making as happened with ucf (huge classes, impossibility to register for your required classes, etc.)
You didn’t indicate what type of grad school you’re looking at - keep in mind that some grad programs are free (fully funded) whereas others are incredibly expensive.
Also, are you in Collegium V?

By fastest growing I meant in terms of facilities and academic recognition, not overall enrollment(although that is increasing as well).
