AUSTIN — The student who went on a stabbing spree at the University of Texas at Austin on Monday, killing one student and injuring three others, had previous mental health issues, including being committed to a mental health facility in another city, police said.
The suspect, Kendrex J. White, 21, appeared calm as he stabbed one student then another and another as he walked through central campus Monday afternoon and appeared to choose his victims at random, UT Austin Police Chief David Carter said Tuesday.
Police have not found any specific motive for what may have triggered White, he said.
My heart goes out to Harrison Brown’s family and words alone can not describe my sorrow. Everything I’ve heard about Harrison through various media sources have made me even sadder as he comes across as a truly wonderful young man, with a genuine good heart and a promising future in front of him. I can’t imagine the pain his family feels and, as a parent myself, I grieve with them. Their son becomes all of ours son. I’m surprised how much this has affected me, but truthfully it has. Be careful out there, everyone. Be vigilant and please stay safe!!!
The campus has been very sad this week. Kids are on edge heading into finals. It was a scary situation and while the police did their jobs (thanks APD and UTPD), the university communication was slow and social media got out of hand with rumors that made it all the worse. So very sad for the victims and their families and friends. Harrison seemed like he was one of the most wonderful young men. What a loss…
