UT University of Texas Austin OOS Waiver 2014-1015

Has any incoming freshman heard officially whether they have received OOS Waiver from UT Austin for the 2014-2015 school year? Our freshman D was admitted to business school (which we know has no freshman OOS Waiver), andMcCombs is by far her first choice of colleges. but we need the OOS Waiver from UT in order to attend. Her UT online financial aid notification package/Shopping Sheet shows $0 for Scholarships/Grants. Question is whether anyone has received notification via online account, mail or email re the OOS Waiver? Not sure whether to remain hopeful or go to plan B, as time is running out to accept other scholarships at other Business Colleges. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

I’m confused. You say she was admitted to the business school at UT Austin which has NO OOS tuition waiver. So why would you expect her to receive one?

I hope this link help. Out-of-state tuition waiver is extremely rare and unless your daughter is awarded a scholarship of at least $1,000, then she isn’t qualify for in-state tuition.

Is this possible for OOS engineering majors? Specifically Petroleum engineering?

My OOS son got into BME for the fall of 2010. He received a $1,000 scholarship. I called the engineering school to ask about his chances for a tuition waiver, and the lady politely laughed at me! At that time, they had only SEVEN OR EIGHT waivers, TOTAL - not per year. So that’s only two per year per class. Not great odds. But you could call and check since that was a few years ago.

Not to sound vain but I think my chances are good that I could get that tuition waiver. Thanks for your input @MaineLonghorn

@RedEyeJedi, what are your stats?

Oh, I see that you’re a transfer student. I think that would be just about impossible, because you’d have to unseat someone who was already getting the waiver.

she was a direct admit to McCombs. which i am aware does not have it’s own OOS waiver. However, she is still eligible (altho i know it’s rare) for the UT OOS which would apply to her whether she was a direct Business School admit or not. The fact that she was a direct admit to the Business school, i guess, is irrelevant to my actual question. Thanks!

At least where engineering is concerned, I have read online that the OOS waiver is dependent upon obtaining a merit scholarship, and the offer of a waiver will be stated in the scholarship award letter. I also read that even if you qualify, you are not likely to get an oos waiver. <a href=“Financial Support”>Financial Support; I don’t know if it’s the same for business, but also have read that certain schools receive limited numbers of waivers to award. Son was awarded a scholarship, but no waiver. As a result, we moved on quickly.
