Hey everybody. A little backgound on me: I graduated high school last year with a 3.0 and 1640 (out of 2400) on my SATs. I was all set to go to West Viriginia University but backed out last minute. By that time it was too late to apply anywhere else, so I am currently at Community College taking 13 college credits.

During the fall I have applied to Rutgers New Bruns / Newark. Unfortunately, only Newark accepted me. I have also been accepted to Monmouth and Rider.

As it stands right now, I am on track to have probably somewhere around a 3.4-3.7 by the end of the semester.

I have a brother who goes to Rutgers New Brunswick but I am unsure if I should do another semester of Community College (which I hate, just for the record) and reapply to New Brunswick, or go to Monmouth (very expensive and have no received much aid) or go to Rider (have to wait until the end of the semester to find out about aid)

I love Rutger's atomopshere, the value of the degree, and the academics. I dislike the enormous student body. I definitely feel as if Rutgers is easily the best education for the least amount of money.

I like Rider / Monmouths campus's and smaller student body but feel like it does not give that true college experience due to them being commuter schools. Plus, they are a lot more expensive than Rutgers.

I am planning on majoring in business.

Any input would be appreciated as I seem to change my mind every 3 minutes.

Does Rutgers have a program, like at Ohio State and its regional campuses where if you maintain a certain GPA at Newark you can transfer to Brunswick. If so, I would choose Newark. Otherwise, Rider/Monmouth assuming you can afford them.

Rutgers program to transfer from Newark to New Brunswick does not make a lot of sense. You must stay there a minimum of two semesters, maintain a 3.4 or over, and you are still not guaranteed to successfully transfer. Whereas if I just did well another semester at Community College I would probably have a better chance.

Monmouth and Rider are affordable enough for me, but a part of me just does not feel right about spending more money for a lesser education compared to Rutgers.

I’m sure Rider and Monmouth are decent schools, but Rutgers seems a lot more respected.

OP: Calculate the total cost-of-attendance for each of your options. Try to keep debt as low as possible. Sorry, but I’m not very familiar with these schools, but a business degree is valuable from any accredited college or university. Good luck. You’ll make the right decision. Just get good grades.

P.S. Many get a business degree, work for a few years, then get an MBA (often the employer pays for part-time MBA programs if you continue to work). This may help put your undergraduate degree in perspective. Be thankful that you have choices.

Sounds like deep down you want Rutgers, and so go to Newark. I agree with you re prestige if Rutgers is Rutgers w/o any distinctions on the diploma between the twp locations? Otherwise a regional campus’s reputation is typically less than the main one.

My only gripe with Rutgers Newark is its location a pretty shady area, and its more of a commuter campus than New Brunswick.

The only thing I really do not like about New Brunswick is you feel more like a number there. I would almost prefer a smaller school from an academic standpoint , but I feel like Monmouth and Rider are not nearly presteigous as Rutgers. .

My only fear at this point I suppose is doing another semester at Community College and New Brunswick once again rejecting me.
