UVA 2018 Spring Transfers

Hi guys! This thread hasn’t been made yet so I figured to start it up. Feel free to post any questions, acceptance/rejection results, or other general inquiries here! I also transferred to UVA my second year, so if you need any advice or encouragement, please be sure to reach out. Oh and if anyone needs a roommate in the spring, DM me!!

Hi, guys. I was a transfer student to UVA as well. I hope those of you who are anxiously waiting for the result get the result you wanted like me. I am posting to sublet my shared room for Spring 2018. It is right at corner, 10 min to campus and all the food. It is only 400 per month. If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact me. B st wishes!

What were your stats? Were you a sophomore or junior transfer?

I was a sophomore transfer from the university of texas. I had a 3.9 GPA, 33 ACT

Will my HS grades matter as a sophomore transfer? I’ll have about 35 credits completed before I apply.

Yes, your HS grades will matter since you only have one year of college under your belt. As will your SAT/ACT scores, AP scores, etc

Are you sure? The typical sophomore who applies for the junior year usually has 42-45 credits and have that transcript sent. They apply with 15 more credits for the spring semester that may or may not be sent to UVA in time for admission decisions and they claim that if you complete the associates by the time you apply, HS grades’ effect is very minimal. I don’t really understand the logic to barely check HS grades for the person who’s completed 42-45 credits and check HS grades for someone who has a transcript of one or two classes less than the other…

Did anyone end up getting in?

I did, anyone else?

I did!!! Where is everyone living in the spring?? I am in Lambeth

Stats please?

what were your stats?

-3.74 first semester
-3.92 second semester
-Sent in all A’s for midterm grades
-government internship
-average sat scores
-phi mu
-a ton of volunteer hours
-be the match club
-good essays and 2 recommendations from professors
-4.64 high school gpa with a lot of extra curriculars

Hi, my name is Marco and I’m currently a first year undergraduate student from Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) and I applied for this Spring 2018 transfer to the University of Virginia. I am majoring in Computer Science and applied to the school of engineering and applied sciences. I took 17 credits my first semester (last fall) and am taking 17 credits this semester. So to start off I want to give a little background. My high school results were very poor and not even close to what UVA’s typical GPA was for incoming freshman students. In my freshman and sophomore years of high school I suffered from ADHD and depression. I could barely study and get my work done which really hurt my grades, and GPA. After trying a few medications I was finally a bit stable in my junior year and senior year. My GPA was affected however so badly from my first two years of high school that I was not able to get accepted anywhere. My overall GPA in high school (including my senior year grades) was a 2.75. I decided to attend a community college for a fresh start and in my first semester I took 17 credits and I ended with a GPA of 4.0 with straight A’s in each class. This semester I am taking 17 credits and as of now have a 4.0 heading into the midterm range of this semester. I know that UVA will weigh my high school results along with my college work, but realistically what are my chances? My SAT is a 1200 so it isn’t great either. Thankfully for the engineering school, sending SAT or ACT scores are optional. I am a part of NOVA’s honor society and I’m on the dean’s list with a good standing comment under my college transcript. My high school grades show a positive correlation as each year my GPA got better and better but it is still quite low. I know I can’t change the past but it seems like even with my current results in college, UVA will hold the past against me and I will probably get rejected. Please let me know and please be brutally honest about my chances of actually being accepted or even wait listed. I don’t like to keep false hope and your opinion can help me make a few key decisions in the coming months. Also I have another question. So the UVA website said that by May 1st, spring transfer students will know their decision. However is it possible that they give the decisions before that date like in mid April or even before?

Sorry this is long. I hope you can answer back whenever you get the time.
Regards,
Marco

First of all. Wrong thread. You’re applying for Fall 2018 not Spring. I have a similar story to yours and I am also applying to get in for Fall of 2018. I’m taking about the same amount of credits as you and have a 4.0 except that I’m taking accelerated courses and they’ll have final grades for me by the time they make their decision. My HS GPA was a little bit better and my SAT is about 1400. I think you have a good chance to get in if you’re taking transferable courses. There’s a lot of people with similar stats like you who’ve gotten in according to some posts from last year. Only thing that might hurt is that you will only have 1 semester of grades to show them. You should have really taken 8 week courses this semester so they could have more course work. You also should have considered retaking the SAT. If you did those, I would say you have almost a certain chance of getting in. Your chances are still good, but less likely and a bit more iffy since you don’t have much course work to show them.

Oops sorry, I thought this was meant for people applying in Spring of 2018. I found the 2018 fall thread and posted there. Thank you so much for the help. So all the classes I’m taking and have taken so far are transferable and they are what is required for students at UVA who are also majoring in CS like me. So I will have 34 credits graded by the end of this semester, and in the summer I plan to take another 8 credits therefore before I enter fall I’ll have 42 credits complete which is basically 1/3rd of my undergraduate degree. I also have transferable AP credits in AP Statistics and AP Psychology which might help.

Yea, if you maintain a 4.0 for your midterm report, you’ll 100% get in. I’ve looked back on these transfer threads and reddit posts till’ 2012, and every single person who got a 4.0 got in. Your AP scores will help by the way and that would mean you will have even more credits to submit. Very good chance dude just keep your grades up.

Thanks man you too. Btw are you also a Freshman in college applying for Fall 2018 and what are you planning to major?

Yea, I’m a freshman in college rn also and I’m going for the Econ major
