Anybody doing the UVA Admissions Chat thing tonight?

who what where when why?

WHAT!!! Someone already took my name? Is this serious lol? Posers.

Kind of shocking…

Lol got my name back, now someone is using “uvaorbust44”

Is this how you get over 1000 posts? haha

Okay 1. what 2. @nate +9001 points

I have to say that chat was excellent. It was eye opening to see what some of those kids asked. One question that stood out in particular was “Do we have to write any essays”. I’m not quite sure if this was a joke but I really hope it was. For all of you that were in there I hope I helped. Hopefully I didn’t partake in the blind leading the blind.

Haha, I really hope that wasn’t a joke. Hopefully many many applicants forgot to write their essays!

I was floored that a kid asked that question. Honestly, many of the kids asked questions that could easily be found on the blog or through Google. It was nice to meet Dean Merav though.

Yeah, it was hard to get much out of it just because of the sheer number of people involved. It was hard to get a question in edgewise.

I was a bit confused by Dean Merav’s answer to the question about subject tests. Someone asked if they should submit subject test scores even if they weren’t too great, and I believe Dean Merav said something to the effect of don’t submit if it if you don’t think it will be helpful to you. Considering UVA “strongly recommends” two subject tests, is it really worth going against UVA’s recommendation is you have only so-so scores?

Yea I’m kind of stuck on that also nate. I mean “good” scores in my opinion for OOS are 700 or higher. I’m taking 3 subject tests this Saturday and I HIGHLY doubt I will recieve 2 scores over 700. I was looking at the OOS acceptance thread for the past couple of year and the vast majority of applicants who were accepted submitted SAT II’s. She said that if you don’t submit them it won’t hurt you but for some reason I think it does.

If you score in the mid 600’s or higher for your subject tests you may want to send those scores. Do not think that only 700’s are acceptable. Remember UVa reads holistic and they review all you have to offer.

While that is true woosah, for OOS scores need to be HIGH. Yes UVA uses a holistic approach but scores are much more important for OOS than IS so higher scores definitely are needed.

BTW Nate, I emailed Dean Merav about the SAT II’s. I’ll tell you the response once I get it. And Dean J, if you happen to see this, can you tell me if Dean Merav’s email is:
mf3hu (at) eservices.virginia.edu . I sent an email to that adress but many others were listed.

Thanks.
