Waitlisted. In state 4.4 GPA, 34 ACT, Top 4% of class. Not sure why.
My son waitlisted last year, along with MANY of his GT Friends and no one got off waitlist; UVA giving preference to First Gen. And yes, extremely competitive in NOVA - TJ gets lion share of admissions, 150-200 ea year. Other NOVA high schools cannot compete with TJ student resources.
OOS D accepted. 35 ACT, 4.9 W GPA and tons of ECs and leaderships positions. Also accepted to MIT, so right now they are currently her top two.
Congrats to all who have been accepted. UVA is a fabulous school with amazing community and traditions. Please post decision with information on the separate thread that has been started. It does help people to see the type of fabulous kids that are getting in. UVA is much more than GPA and test scores. They really do a holistic approach.

Very excited, UVA is a great school.
Funny side note: I got into BC earlier and the letter didn’t say congratulations in the first sentence (It said “I’m delighted to offer you admission…” so I assumed it was a rejection since I typically scan to see the congrats.
So you can imagine my HAPPINESS when the first word on the UVA acceptance was “Congratulations”!! LOL

I’m getting a blog post together with some stats, but I wanted to address one thing…
@midatlantic2012, I don’t think you meant to blame TJ students for your student’s decision, but I have to chime in about your post. We admitted over 4,000 students from Virginia last year and over 1,100 of them were from Fairfax County.
A student is evaluated in light of what is offered at their school. We don’t try to guess what may have happened if they went to a school with a different curriculum. Most students don’t get to pick their high school, so we subscribe to that “bloom where you’re planted” philosophy.
So 25% of your incoming class comes from one Virginia county out of 95 and over 3 dozen independent cities??? Good to know.
