Hello fellas,

Well today I got home from school and didn't have much to do so I did some research on UVA OOS statistics. The first interesting fact that I found was the OOS acceptance rate. I found that the OOS acceptance rate rose from 22% two years ago to 24% this year. For some reason I always thought that the acceptance rate from OOS was less than 15%. However, I began to question how many people applying from OOS are just regular kids. Meaning, no legacies, no hooks, or no recruited athletes. I'm predicting that the OOS acceptance rate once all of those applicants are subtracted is closer to 15% (If anyone has any other input on this please do post).

Secondly, I began to think about UVA's prestige. As you all have probably seen, I'm extremely biased toward UVA. I went to a GC at my school today (who is not my normal GC, but my real GC isn't very informed) and she told me her husband went to UVA and her son attended UVA. Of course, I told her that UVA is where I want to attend and the whole story etc. and she began to speak about UVA to me. At my school, not many people know about UVA. In the past 10 years only a mere 31 kids have applied to the school and only two were accepted in 2001. When I tell kids at my school I want to attend UVA, I either get the response "what school is that" or "no way you'll get in". Anyways, my guidance councilor felt so honored that her husband and son attend UVA I just felt the need to share. She spoke so highly of the school I was floored (mostly because she didn't attend). I really feel like UVA is a hidden gem. Because it is not an Ivy and is a state school, many people underestimate the education provided at UVA. I even have to say, when I interned at the Private Equity Fund this summer, I met numerous people who had graduated from either UVA or Darden who told me of the great time they had at the school.

This is honestly one of the main reasons I have such a love for UVA and a desire to attend. The passion that students, alumni, and faculty share in the love for the school is even prevalent on these forums. The amount of helpful posters in this sub-section of CC is outstanding. Hazelorb (probably one of the most helpful members I've met on CC) has been posting in the UVA forum for over three years and continues to do so even after she has graduated. Even Dean J, although she is a dean, has no obligation to post on this site as well as open a blog to help students. I feel out of the graduates I've met, UVA grads or those related to UVA in some other shape or form, show such a strong love for the school.

I know many readers of this forum will just pass over my post, but I honestly felt the need to share.
