UVa in sad shape

<a href="http://www.virginia.edu/insideuva/2001/05/buildings.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.virginia.edu/insideuva/2001/05/buildings.html</a></p>

UVA does not seem to have any problem building new buildings for basketball. It's new building complex for the Darden School (MBA program) is first rate. I don't think UVA is in sad shape at all, but the authors of the article want others to think so in order to generate money for several old buildings that give the school character and don't require fixing.

Given the number of times our perky little tour guide at UVa assured us that they didn't have TA's, I would think that an 8x12 office would be plenty big enough for 25 of them in the religion department.

Barrons, this is so old news. It was published in 2001, and I remember you posting it months ago. Like I mentioned in response to your previous posting, UVa is going through a major overhaul of the University using the money it is raising from its $3 billion campaign. If you visit UVa, you will see the massive construction going on on Grounds - from the creation of the new Special Collections Library to the Arts Precinct to the new Commerce School to the new basketball stadium to the South Lawn Project to the renovation of Rouss Hall.

Stop with your anti-UVA and pro-Wisconsin propaganda.

UVA > Wisconsin

period.

Ouch... ID, you are really being bad. This so far is the funny for the day, but you're still being bad.

Or maybe just practical why need office space for people who don't exist?

Capital outlay needs for deferred maintenance are widespread, and not just at UVa.

From a January article in the Chronicle of Higher Education:

"Estimates of the nationwide cost of catching up with deferred maintenance on public-college campuses range from $26-billion to more than $50-billion."

Sybbie:

I am being bad.

I should add that I am not singling out UVa, a school and a tour guide that I liked very much.

"We don't have TAs" was the most common statement by the tour guides at every university with TAs, just above "we feel safe because these blue phones let us call for help when we are being mugged" and "oh, no...just because 70% of our students are in frats doesn't mean you'll feel left out if you aren't cool enough to pledge"....

I'm sure that most every parent and prospect on these boards knows what I'm talking about!
