UVA (instate-NOVA-regular action)--chance me please???

Hi y'all,

I was wonderin if y'all could chance me for UVA:

I go to an unranked High School, and it is in Loudon County. According to the scattergrams (comparing my stats to everyone else at that school) on the Blackboard site, I am in good standing for UVA : 4.24GPA, 11 AP courses (not including my current Math course, Mutlivariable Calculus), and a 2150 SAT. I took 2 AP classes my sophmore year including AP Computer Science A, and AP US History; my junior year I had AP BC Calculus, AP World History, AP Chemistry, AP Lang/Comp, Spanish 4, and StudyHall, and Physics(regular) ( all were As, minus SH which has no grade assigned). My senior year I take 6 AP classes including Multi-Calc/Linear alg(1st semester/2nd semester) and the problem here is that my mid year report isnt so great :(((( and this is where Im afraid I may not get into UVA...

I ended Multi first semester mark with a C+ (79.33--should I tell UVA that its so close to a B- or would that come across as immature), I also have 3 Bs, and then 2 As. (no grade for SH)--these are my senior first semester grades. I know they are absolutely not up to par, and a lot of my friends, including my bf at UVA now, have said that if I applied early action I would have definitely gotten in according to the High School I attend. I was involved in a pretty bad car accident with my step brother right before the mid year report was due...so I guess that has something to do with the grade deflation.--my principal has contacted the colleges I applied to, and this incident has been added on my file application.

My essays were quite solid...I spent many many hours 'perfecting' them. My common app detailed my experiences at the MST governor School and in my supplement I talked about a incurable disease that I attempt to cope with for the past 7 years.

I was also nominated for the Jefferson Scholarship (which acc to the jeff site, has absolutely nothing to do with the admissions process)..but I included it under 'honors and awards' nonetheless. I'd really like to pursue an Economics major at this University, so I am hopeful that my senior mid year report won't hurt my chances too much, also taking into account the accident report that was recently added to my file app. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Well academically you seem on par with a nice GPA and a good SAT score. If your essays are truly wonderful and make you stand out well then i d say you’re a match. Hard to tell without knowing your extracurriculars though.

My thread (chance pls): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html</a></p>

yea but my senior year grades are so badd…do u think the accident report that was added to my file would compensate?

cuz i mean, not many people get in a near-death accident, survive, and tell the admissions office in time before their app is reviewed.

and yea my Essays like i said, are really solid…ive even gotten really personal and talked about a personal disease.

Well the accident will certainly give admissions officers context as to why your grades dropped, which works in your favor.

The accident will explain it all. They will understand that. They aren’t that bad anyways!
