UVA or Georgia Tech. Computer Science Major

I got admitted by both UVA and GT. I got confused. The overall ranking of UVA is very good and I have contact with prof. in UVA and also current students in College of Engeering and they are very nice and warm-hearted. The student in GT is warm-hearted as well, but I didn’t have a chance to contact with prof. in GT yet. Computer science in GT have a good reputation than that in UVA.

I want to focus mainly on study and research, and I hope students around probably pursue the same ~

I may be intended to pursue further study, that is Ph.D. in the future. And want to study Ph.D in Berkeley. I guess I have more chance to interact with prof. who once studied in UCB.

May anyone give me some ideas, all of you are very welcomed.

Does anyone have some ideas~~~

UVA is fine for your goals. You will have NO fun at GT.

Old wives tale- not currently true about tech.

Wow! Why do you think that? Can you tell me some more detailed information?

I live here and know current students and recent grads.

@jym626 May I know how the gt actually is now? What is the difference between the old wives tale and the current gt?

@BassGuitar Wow! Why do you think that? Can you tell me some more detailed information?

@jym626 I want to pursue Ph.D. in the future, so I want to study in school where professors have very good academic backgrounds and therefore I guess I have more chance to get in TOP CS Ph.D. in America by professor’s recommendation letters.

Given my goal, can you tell more detailed information, which you heard or experienced, about professors and student in Georgia Tech?

Thank you~~~

@jym626 I mean do you have some examples?

His opinion is probably worth more than mine, but of the few people I know that go there, they unanimously tell me it’s in an awful part of town and that most people who go there have a dull time and stick it out in the hopes of making bank afterwards.

hard to cite examples. Just what the current students are saying-- much more cooperative environment than in years past. It still a lot of hard work though, for sure! There has been a lot of growth in the area and Tech has trolleys that drive around nearby areas. There are some areas that are rougher not far off campus, but thats true for a lot of schools.

If the OP is interested in pursuing a Phd then participation in undergraduate research will be critical. For what it’s worth, some at the NSF believe that the CS research at GT is some of the best in the country.

@ChrisTKD Amazing! I was admitted by Rice University last week. I was waitlisted before, and never thought they would get me off from waitlist! How would you suggest between Rice and Gatech?

@jym626 Thank you for your advise. Rice University has me off from waitlist last week! Do you think Rice is a better choice than Gatech?

@BassGuitar Thank you~

Rice gave me an offer last week. What a big surprise! Do you think Rice is a better choice?
