UVA still #1 for African-Americans

According to the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education, UVA for the umpteenth year, has the #1 graduation rate for African-Americans among all US public schools (87%). Plus, UVA still has the highest public school graduation rate among all students (93%).

The school that came in 2nd had a black graduation rate of 72%. The national average is 43%.

Kudos to UVA's Office of African-American Affairs and the Black Peer Mentoring Program!

Yeah, as a black student the Peer Advising program definitely has a positive effect on incoming black students. However, I would say that socially UVA may not be as appealing to black students as other schools. Personally, Charlottesville doesn't have the things that a big city would have and it doesn't help to have racial incidents happen at least twice a semester at UVa. Either way, I do not regret my decision at all in attending UVa. All the friends I've met and obviously the education speaks for itself.
