UVA Supplement Essays

Hey, I wrote both of my UVA supplements about science. The first one is about a new physics discovery, and how it makes me excited for the first years of the Age of Technology. But for my second one, I chose the "Describe the world you come from..." essay prompt. I wrote about how I lived basically 15 minutes away from UVA, and all of my family friends were scientific researchers, and how it has affected me and made me want to become a scientist as well.

I was wondering if writing both essays about science is a little too narrow-minded... It just seems like I wouldn't be an appealing student if that was all I wrote about. Any thoughts on this?

Sounds okay to me. Focus on the people, not UVa. We get plenty of essays that tell us about our school. You don’t have to do that.

Yeah =] I talk about how the location meant that my father mostly made friends with fellow researchers, and so I was surrounded by them. I didn’t talk that much about UVA, other than the fact that I lived 15 minutes away from it, and that all the people I knew worked there.

Thanks!
