I’m an exchange student looking into on-grounds housing and I’m wondering which house is best for me. I’m partial to a regular cheeky beverage so would prefer a place with people in the same boat. As an exchange student, I thought IRC would be best but I don’t know if the vibe is quite what I’m looking for. Any ideas?
A response to this would be greatly appreciated for myself as well as I am a transfer and do not know what exactly I want to do for housing. I’ve heard that living with transfers helps a lot with making friends and getting aquatinted to the whole process. Please help!!
The UVA subreddit has some recent threads on the issue.
Living with transfers has pluses and minuses. You meet others who are strangers to the school/country so are open to making friends. On the other hand, you need to decide what you want to get out of an exchange program. If you just want to experience learning in a different country, you can go any way. If you want to develop relationships which could provide long term/life long connections to the US, then you want to room with a non transfer. The IRC has a good community and would make the social transition easier.
