Hi! I'm a sophomore but here's what I think my stats will be like.
GPA: 3.7 (unweighted)

SAT: new SAT equivalent of around 1500 (I'm a good test taker)

Courses: I go to Hockaday, a prestigious girls' school, 7 APs, 4 yrs of Latin (2 AP years), 2 yrs of French, math through AB Calc (AP), AP English, AP Modern Euro, APUSH, 2 honors sciences, AP Biology

EC:
Varsity Tennis: I-IV
Model UN: II-IV
Community Service: II-IV Scottish Rite hospital (200 hrs)
100 additional hours at various charities
Piano: I-IV
President of the Connection:Iraq Club: II-IV
(hopefully more will come!)

My teachers have always liked me and I'm a pretty good writer, so I think I'm ok with the recs and essay.

What are my chances at:
UVA
UPENN
WASH U
DUKE
VANDERBILT

If you have any suggestions of what I should do to better my chances the next two years, or another college, please tell me!
THANK YOU!!

any thoughts would be great!

ok, not gonna lie, it would be so cool if someone would respond...not that it's been more than like 2 hrs... but, at the risk of sounding SO annoying, please respond!

sadly not virginia. texas!

get ur gpa up like to 3.8 if u can. and if your sat is that high if u say, then u have a decent- good shot at uva. if you had been instate, i would say your in

any thoughts on the other colleges?

i say better shot at washington and vanderbilt. almost a safe reach.
duke= as good as uva shot i think. same for upenn

any other colleges that would be within a comfortable reach?

It depends how good a 3.7 is. At my high school it was great (most kids went ivy). That will be the difference.

You have a good shot at UVA, WUSTL, Vanderbilt. Duke and Penn will be reaches.

thanks! what kind of school did you go to where 3.7 was really good?

also, what do you think about georgetown?

Um. Don't you mean ** OLD ** SAT equivalent of 1500? 1500 on the new scale is pretty horrid.

what?! 1500 on the new SAT is bad??? um jk - hopeful scores on the new SAT are equivalent to somewhere around a 1500 on the old SAT

Okay, now that I've clarified. cracks knuckles, runs his brain-o-matic analysis

I'm presuming you mean the Hockaday School in Dallas. If you don't, then please, correct me.

UVA - Reach
UVA is always a reach for out of staters, due to the fact that they can only take in so many. They have to give preference to in-staters, so that can be a .. problem?

UPENN - Reach
Again, an Ivy is no walk in the park to get into, and UPENN, thanks to its rise in popularity through the US News and World Report rankings -- will be even harder to enter into. I'd say more of a reach than UVA.

WASH U - Reach/Match
Taking a look at the applicant pool. There's just a lot of them, and in growing numbers, and also growing quality. I'd say more a match than a reach, but then again, when is a T25 school ever a solid match?

DUKE - Reach
The "Southern Ivy" -- re: UPENN, but to a slightly lesser extent.

VANDERBILT - Match/Reach
I think it's doable.

Intended major?

I'm thinking either business or pre-law (both international) or govt/foreign affairs.

Have you considered Georgetown? It'd be a reach/match, more reach than match, but it's excellent for international affairs! The school of Foreign service, anyway. (I applied, but I was deferred, hopefully my deferral is reversed!)

ps: how did you know i go to hockaday?

I go to Hockaday, a prestigious girls' school...

It was in your original post.

Anyway, since this was a Chances thread, here's my opinion....
UVa: Match
UPenn: Slight Reach
WashU: Match
Duke: Slight Reach
Vanderbilt: Safe Match

i was just about to mention georgetown. what were your stats?
