UVA, Vanderbilt, U of Miami, etc.

Okay so I go to public school. uva, vandy, miami, gtown, cornell, and washington and lee are my reaches i think. as safetys and fits i am applying to Tennessee, Georgia, and FSU.

AP classes
Euro
lang. and comp.
lit. and comp. us history
govt/economics
cal AB
US History

Unweigthed GPA: 3.8

ACT: 30 (i have not taken the sat)

I write for the schoolnewspaper, and i am in many clubs

bump1-char

Vandy is going to be nearly impossible.

That’s not necessarily true. If he’s in a bunch of leadership positions in the clubs – and the clubs themselves are crazy impressive – he’s got a shot. If his SAT is exceptional, he’s got a shot.

With the information given, I would say no on Vandy, UVA, G’town, and Cornell, but if your essays and recs are strong, and you end up having a nice SAT… you never know.

EC’s, essays, recs, subjectives are so important to elite schools, but using just stats provided:

Vanderbilt University - Reach
Cornell University - Reach

Georgetown University – Low Reach
Washington & Lee University – Low Reach

University of Virginia – High Match

University of Miami - Match

Vandy and Cornell are reaches, mostly due to your not that great ACT, and it’s hard to tell without detail on your ECs. If your SAT is great than you have a good chance at the rest of the shools.

help me out?

I am only a junior, and I just took a practice test and got a 33 after some tutoring. If I am able to get this next year, how would that help my chances, even if its only 3 points higher?
