Hey everyone!
I just heard back from Haverford and UVA and while they're very different schools which both have great reputations, I am in love with both of them! I dont know how to choose and would love if somebody could help me out! Which one has a better reputation because I havethe impression that UVA is better known throughout the US while haverford more in the philly/DC/ny area...
And also the pro's and con's of both schools
Can someone tell me which one would be better for a pre-med student or somebody interested in economics/internatioal relations?
soory for all the questions but any help would be appreciated!

bummpppp…bummppp…

haverford and uva are so completely different how do you even start. uva is a public, mid sized, southern-ish school. haverford is a private, small, northern school, which you share classes between all of those other schools (bryn mawr, swarthmore, etc - villanova is included too i think… rosemont…), uva has, like, 5 colleges in itself (law, business, med, eschool, arch, etc). i think you really need to evaluate which of those two sounds more like you… they’re so different!!!

congrats on your acceptance into those exceptional schools Well, if you are trying to go the route of premed, I believe UVA would be a great choice; they are ranked #23 of USNW for their med school. Haverford is an excellent school, but i do not know much about it.

Thanks everyone for your advice!
Yes i know they’re so completely different but i love things about both of them which is making this decision so much harder!

but overall which diploma looks more impressive or could u say they’re more or less equal in reputation? Also, which school will allow me to have a higher salary when just out of college or create more opportunities for me?

I would definitely say UVa. UVa is more well known

Haverford is at least the equal of UVa academically but it is a riskier choice. Even by LAC standards it is VERY small (1,169 students). UVa obviously is much better known. If you’re not a risk taker, all else being equal, maybe UVa. But this is not necessarily the right answer. No one on CC will be able to provide that.

“Well known” does not equal prestige. In any event, they’re both impressive.

I’d strongly recommend visiting both if you have the time. My son narrowed all of his choices down to his top two last year. He did back-to-back overnights in early April and came away with a clear preference. My bet is spending some time on each campus would help you decide. They really are very different environments, but rest assured you can be academically successful coming out of either one.

Re-posting:

I’d go with UVA over Haverford. It has better name recognition. It will be easier for you to get a job/get into a good grad school with UVA. Also, UVA has some world-renowned professors.

^^ Haverford is top notch. Anyone who is anyone knows about it… a degree from Haverford will definitely serve one well with their career and grad school.

UVa is great too.
