UVA vs JMU Honors

Gathering info to help DS decide between UVA and JMU Honors for Business / Finance / Econ degree. Did not receive any merit from JMU and doubtful the UVA will off anything so cost will probably be similar.

JMU Honors has some nice perks with the registration advantage, smaller class sizes and will probably accept more AP and DE courses from HS which may mean finishing a semester or two early with a few summer courses. High percentage that will be accepted to Business School at JMU and ROI is good according to Poets and Quants and Payscale rankings. DS really likes the school and has several friends attending.

UVA is ranks higher in most rankings and has more national prestige. Lower chance of getting into School of Commerce which would result in an Econ degree after 4 years if he doesn’t get in. Only has a couple of friends that attend and hear that competition is fierce in classes.

The top employers for graduates from both schools are very similar with many firms on both lists. Average salary is definitely higher at UVA for McIntire graduates, but not sure about Econ salaries.

What do you think? Which would you pick?

I would pick UVA but my D attend there and it is truly a special place. Maybe it’s different in economics but in engineering she’s finding it to be very collaborative.

In either case, you are very fortunate to have those as in state options
