UVA vs. UMD: BME/Bioengineering

Not to diverge from the UVA vs. UMD thread already in this forum, I wanted to ask specifically about the programs at UVA and UMD in regards to BME (or as UMD has it, BIOE).

I'm deciding between these two schools basically, and I'm wondering which program is better? I hear that UVA's BME is much more rooted in application, but I haven't heard much about research/internship opportunities concerning BME specifically. On the other hand, UMD's BIOE is just starting (it's been a few years since its inception I think) but it's located in an ideal spot near big companies like Accenture so students have that opportunity.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

Look at BME vs BIOE because they can be very different. BME is specifically medical applications while BIOE is more industrial processes.

UVa has TONS of BME research so much so that essentially you work in a lab every year since your second year.

Accenture is an IT consulting company so you’d be working in IT and not something related to your major.
