UVa vs UMich (engineering)

I am trying to make my final decision - UVa or UMich. The location, weather, and size do not really matter to me, but I would like to know which university would be better for my career.
I want to major in mechanical engineering (or electrical), and eventually, I wanna work in an automotive or computer-aided design and manufacturing industry.

p.s. I live in VA, so going to UVa is cheaper than Michigan, but not too much cheaper since I am getting approximately $20,000 from UMich if I go there.

I would say UVa, though both a good schools. Its just that overall UMich will add to a total near 100k.

UM > UVA. Is money a concern? our mech engineering department is one the the top in the world, so …

Frankly, UVA’s engineering is not really that strong. Its engineering school places at #37. Michigan however, is in the top three for mechanical engineering and in the top six for electrical engineering. The engineering school at Michigan places at #7. Go to Michigan if the cost difference is affordable for you.

You are getting $20,000/year from Michigan? If that is the case, UVa and Michigan will cost roughly the same to attend and in that case, for Engineering, I would recommend Michigan.
