What do you mean?? I don't understand how my posts could have offended anyone... you are right, I am a 17 year-old teenager asking for advice on the most important decision of his life. Excuse me for caring.

OK, quick question... for anyone that attends UVa or Vanderbilt, is the symphony orchestra there pretty diverse?
If no, which races are most prevalent?

Also, any more useful responses?? Please? I don't want to turn this thread into some hate discussion with alot of useless bickering... I really want people's opinions on this matter.
Thanks in advance for your useful responses! =)

Shameless Bump.

Any and all opinions on this matter are valued tremendously.

"Notice how you don't mention how white kids self-segregate themselves? Also you say "what is considered UVA things," do you really mean "what are considered white UVA things"?"

"Do you think that the white community self-segregate themselves as well?"

While there I personally believe that there is a group of people (I can't point a finger at individuals...its just more of a 'you know' type of thing) who are racist and wouldn't want to hang out with black people at UVa, I'm sure they are in the EXTREME minority.

When you ask if you think the white community self segregates itself, I believe the answer is no. You'll find, the groups which "self-segregate" are minority populations who find themselves participating in minority themed events I guess. You probably can figure out why it would be awkward for a white dude to be hanging out in the "asian society" club. or an asian dude being part of "ebony international." When was the last time you heard of someone white rushing an historically black or asian fraternity?

On the other hand, I think you'll find a disproportionately small percentage of minority students who participate in clubs such as UDems, Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, etc. I have no problem with people being part of activities which are culturally related...especially if you want to keep those roots, but last time I checked there was no "White People From Western and Southern Europe" club.

Jags, your opinion has been very, very helpful in my decision-making. It is nice to know that the white community at UVa is as open to diversity as the University broadcasts. I will be attending Spring Fling, and after that event making my final decision.

Any more opinions are appreciated. Thanks to all that posted.

This thread is still open for discussion =)

Hey doctorsboy, this may be a little off topic, but what kind of stats did u have when u applied (GPA, SAT, Class rank, Course Levels, EC, etc...) I was just wondering in order to gauge my chances. Thanks alot. (In my opinion I think Vandy is the best choice, its really starting to integrate multicultural students, and there's the undeniable fact that the chicks are BANGIN'.)

subscribing to thread...(ignore this)
