UW financial aid

Hi - I was admitted to the University of Washington Seattle months ago, yet I'm having major issues with my financial aid. I'm an out of state student (California), so the tuition is much higher for me. My family income is really very low, so I thought that UW would offer something to help, but almost all of what they have offered me is in loans, which is definitely not enough.

My parents are pressuring me to go to UCSD because it will be so much cheaper, but UW appeals to me tremendously more.
UW requested I send in additional info (my parents' tax return etc.), and when I called the financial aid office, all they could tell me was that they received it and my financial aid status could not change at all or it could change completely.

I am confused as to what this means, but there was no more information they could give me. Does anyone know anything more on my chances of changing my financial aid status? I really don't want to have to forget about UW because of this!

if it’s not too late, you should try applying for scholarships from fastweb.com! it doesn’t hurt to apply…

Try to appeal by filling out this form. Student Financial Aid; try to describe your financial situation and resend all the info especially the latest pay stubs of your parents.

Unless the additional information you sent revealed a quite different financial situation than the one UW originally considered, I’d say the aid you get is not likely to change, or if it does, the change won’t be significant. If you require a lot more aid than what you’ve been offered (and it sounds like you do), you are probably stuck going to college in-state. UW is a great school, but so is UCSD and I certainly wouldn’t get into thousands of dollars of debt to go to UW over UCSD if I were in your position.
