UW Honors, advice please!

For someone who is in Honors or knows lots about it, thanks!

I've been accepted to UW Honors and am strongly considering it among my other college options. I think UW is a great school and I very much liked it when I visited. However, I have been admitted to slightly more "prestigious" universities (this is debateable of course). Anyway, my parents can't understand why I want to go to UW when I got into Cal and UVA.

What I want to know is, what are some of the advantages of the Honors program that make it worth going to UW over some other more highly rated institutions? Personally I really like the idea of smaller classes, teachers that know you, more personal advising, etc. Are there specific opportunities that UW honors has opened for you? (or that you know of). UW is the only school (among the 3 I'm considering) in which I've been admitted to an honors program.

Thanks for your thoughts, I'm trying to convince my parents:)

I’ve never really bothered to post a reply until this question. Feel honored! :)

Anyways, I’m a senior at UW. I was in the Honors Program for a year and decided to drop it. The classes were so limited and it just wasn’t beneficial for me as I thought it would be. Of course there are some benefits. The advising staff is great. They are always there to support you. But if you got into Virginia and Berkeley, consider those schools. UW is great, but not too great if you are comparing it to UVA or UCB. I know many people who graduated with college honors at UW, but that didn’t really help them when they applied for grad school or jobs.

You see, I got accepted to Berkeley and Cornell, but I chose to go to UW Honors. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve ever made.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. haha I guess I was hoping for a different response but I appreciate the honesty! It seems like I’m in a very similar position as you were. Do you wish you had gone to Berkeley or Cornell because you were not satisifed with quality of education at UW? Or is the prestige and name recognition on applications a factor?

I’m curious to know how successfuly you have been with gradschool and job applications. Do you think you would be having more success coming from a different school?

Anyway, thanks again, I really appreciate it! However, I’m still open to more opinions! I love the northwest and am still looking for a reason to go to college there…

hey, i just wanted to bump this incase anyone had any more advice!
