My D22 moved on a while ago, too. She liked UW-M, it’s very popular here in the Chicago area, but the OOS price tag is high and there are other good schools that admitted her that are the same or lower-priced for us. I hope her spot went to someone who loves the school and will enjoy their time there!
DD accepted! OOS. No test scores.
We are a family of Wisc Madison grads and it is WELL worth the visit even if you don’t go to a “scheduled” event. The lakes, the student union, state street, the farmer’s market on the square. Worth it to visit and check out the town and the school.
Call or email Admissions and ask if they can add you or if you can be put on a waitlist for admitted student events.

UW 4.0 / 12+ APs
SAT 1550/ACT 35
Varsity Sport Captain
Solid leadership/very good ECs+CS related ECs/Volunteering etc
Accepted for CS in EA and withdrawn/declined the offer this week.
Same. Daughter actually accepted admission to another school on Feb 8. U-W wasn’t even in the picture anymore.
Not really, in our experience. The acceptances appear to be random, or based on some metric unknown to us. Very, very bright students are WL, significantly less stellar ones accepted. One female with a 4.0/1580 and 12+ AP’s was rejected from a male dominated faculty, CS. In another case, someone with far lesser stats TO/ very few AP’s, who lied about his EC’s got in.
Basically, it’s getting weird.
I know I should probably start another thread, but just in case…does anybody here have advice as far as dorms and housing for in incoming freshman? My husband and I both went to a smaller school where housing was easy; we’re a little intimidated by the numbers at UW (although daughter isn’t!). Any do’s/don’ts would be appreciated.
How is the diversity at UW Wisconsin? I am from MA so I am used to like roughly half Asian and half white lol

Thanks @Het1
Two very different neighborhoods. The Lakeshore dorms tend to be a bit mellower and are closer to the outdoor recreation facilities. It feels like you’re living in a camp. My son lived here (in Kronshage) and loved it. I might stay away from Trippe and Adam’s as there are many single and older students living here. Note that the new indoor recreation center and pool in this neighborhood won’t be finished this coming year. However, they have set up workout equipment in surrounding buildings. The southeast dorms have more of an urban feel and tend to be a bit more lively. They are closer to state street and the new recreation facility. Whitte is probably the most popular here.
Hi - thank you. I thought that the new pool was already open & that the swim team has been using it?
Thanks so much! Really helpful information.
The new facility near the southeast dorms " The Nick" is open has a 50m pool and is the new home of the swim team. The old home of the swim team “the nat” is near the lakeshore dorms and is scheduled for a major renovation but the pool will be for recreational use and not for the swim team.
Took a tour of the Nick last weekend. It was AMAZING!!! Several staff were eager to point out that it’s a great place to get jobs for students too.
has anyone received admission package in the mail yet?
DD made her decision & is headed to UW Madison. We are OOS had a great visit last October - took a tour and met with a good family friend who is currently a sophomore in L&S and is really happy there. She has been able to get involved in numerous ways outside of the classroom - writes for campus magazine and did a part-time internship. The campus is really beautiful. If any of you are headed to Madison for a visit soon - I have 2 restaurant suggestions near the Capitol - Marigold Kitchen for breakfast/brunch and Lucille for dinner. You can make reservations for Lucille on Open Table - they offer wood-fired pizza but have other options as well. Safe travels and good luck with your decisions!
anyone been to one of the in-person admitted student sessions? looks like they’re only 2 hours long but was wondering if there were any more opportunities to also explore the campus on your own (can you enter buildings?) as it’s quite a long trip for us to visit.
P.S was just looking back through my notifications and saw @SingleDadTwoTeen 's reply to me 2 months ago when I was deferred (I spent lots of time on my LOCI!! ), just want to thank everyone here again on this site for all your help and advice throughout this whole process, and best of luck to wherever the future takes you.
