HI, I am an international applicant who got into Wisconsin School of Business as a regular admit and Kelley School of Business as a direct admit. (I am a prospective UNDERGRADUATE student) I intend to major Information System and possibly minor in computer science.
I am having a hard time choosing between these two universities as they are both well known for their prestigious undergraduate business programs. Please give me an advice on which university to enroll to.
All I can say is everyone I know who’s gone to Indiana loved it. That includes my sister.
Both are good schools, but I would go with Wisconsin. Since UW has about 2,600 students compared to Kelley’s 6,000, the average placement at UW should be better.
Kelley has the slightly better business rep, but UW is stronger overall, particularly in STEM, some of the soft sciences, and Education. You’ll be taking all sorts of classes to earn your degree.
I have taken classes in Grainger Hall. Its location is in a great spot on campus, just a couple short blocks from the Union and the Terrace, Bascom Hill, Library Mall and State Street, and the Southeast dorms.
UW is a blast.
But – I think you should read about both schools and choose the one that appeals to you more.
I think Zinhead meant Wisconsin’s BUSINESS school has 2600 students. Both are great. Indiana’s weather is milder in winter. U of Wisconsin’s city is much bigger & more interesting. I’d pick Wisconsin.
IU. Most international students are not coming from Siberia so UW Madison might be a weather shock. We visited in mid-winter and the students looked downtrodden, all wearing sweatpants and parkas, perhaps hungover but awakened by the frigid wind. My neighbor in Bloomington was a business professor in information systems. IU has put a lot of money there from what I can tell. Bloomington is a fantastic college town. Madison is a city with a university. I live in Wisconsin and went to IU so I have my biases. Two good choices.
As an aside, if you are international you also have the cost of flying. You should check out those costs. I suspect that IU will be advantageous. Even if you can price tickets out of O’Hare in Chicago as cheaper than Indianapolis, O’Hare is a miserable airport with terrible traffic and chronic delays. I avoid it at all costs. In any case, do your due diligence.
Many international students are coming from urban environments, where they are used to being able to walk everywhere, to lots of places and activities. If that describes you, then UW might be your better bet, because it is in a bigger city. Also, if you like boating at all, UW sits between two lakes where people can go out on boats, so it is in a unique location.
