is michigan a lot better than madison, do you think? especially because i am thinking of going into the sciences/medicine.... and i am a wisconsin resident. do you think it is worth going to michigan and paying out-of-state tuition (not a HUGE deal, i can afford it, but...) or do you think madison and michigan are not that different? they're both big, their campuses are similar...

These are my top 2 choices for schools as well. I believe UW-M has a better biology field but that may be it. Wisconson is also a top 5 party school so if that's what you are into then UW may be the better choice. Otherwise, chose Michigan. cheers and merry x-mas.

michigan is better overall than wisconsin, however you're instate..I dont think michigan is 20k a year better

I'd say more than anything, visit the schools and the departments you're interested in individually (that helped me a lot in comparing the actual academic quality of schools). Then choose.

Keep in mind that if you're thinking of going to medical school, GPA is VERY important.

Unless you are a Wisconsin resident, I would say Michigan.

If finances aren't a big issue (remember that Medical school is COSTLY, so don't underestimate the $60,000-$80,000 you can save by attending Wisconsin), then I recommend you visit both schools and get a good feel for their respective campus cultures. It is true that those schools have much in common, but they are sufficiently different to have a preference.

yeah i know michigan is probably better than madison overall. i am not really into teh whole party scene that much (or athletics either, but both of the schools have those), but..

I AM INSTATE but i know michigan has a better rep than madison, and that counts a lot for med school too. plus doesn't michigan have a lot of "weeder" classes freshman year?!? but i also heard that if you go to madison and want to apply to med school you are expected to have a really really high gpa just because madison is considered "easier" (whether or not this is true i do not know).

bumpity bump

Med schools will take your undergrad school AND your grades in mind. So a B at michigan would probably look better than a B at wisconsin just because michigan generally has tougher classes. So having a high gpa at michigan will look better than a high gpa at wisconsin.

yeah i have heard from a lot of people that med schools generally take into account the prestige of the school heavily as well... ex: B from harvard=A from madison even with grade inflation rampant at harvard

:( sad sad.

do you know if it is especially hard to get into med school from like madison?
anybody know statistics/stories/general infO?
