UW or Tulane?

I am having the hardest time making a decision between UW Seattle and Tulane University. I am from the Seattle area, so UW is very familiar to me. Regardless of cost, I am wondering which is the better school. I am interested in Pre-Med. Any advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

You have posted this in 2 places, so I will just copy and paste in each lol.

Neither is the “better” school. There is no such thing in general, only which is best for you in particular. It revolves around what is important to you personally, such as large school vs. smaller school (in essence public vs. private), warmer weather New Orleans vs. winter grey Seattle, how comfortable you are with the new adventure of being in the deep South vs. being close to home. These are two very different schools in terms of particulars, but both will give you an excellent education and prepare you for med school, if that in fact is what you stick with (most do not). Think about what will make you happiest and fit you best, and that will make your choice obvious.

ive always dreampt my whole life of going to UW and love the school campus and everything about it. But to me, hands down tulane will give you a better education.

Why do you think so bothellcougar? UW is ranked higher than Tulane…although everyone says not to listen to rankings.

Tulane’s acceptance rate is pretty low but they accepted me and gave me a hefty scholarship to go there so they can’t be that great if they wanted me so badly hehe. Other than that I don’t really know much about the school but saying they offer a better education hands down than UW is ridiculous imo, especially for med. I think Tulane has a good med school, but UW has one of the best medical schools in the country, and the pre-med program is apparently pretty good as well.

No one was talking about the med schools, just an undergrad education and how the pre-med is. It is a silly discussion that happens a lot. Why silly? Because pre-med is just a handful of basic courses that all schools offer. There is so little difference between basic chem and bio at any of these schools, I don’t know why people bother to discuss it at all.

I think what was meant above was that Tulane being a much smaller school than UW, and being private, there will be more interaction between the profs and the students. Maybe the advising is a little more personal as well. The usual differences between schools of these two schools of these types. Both are very good schools with high average credentials for admitted students. The decision should really be made on all the other factors such as economics, desire to live in another part of the country, preferences regarding size, sports, Greek life, etc.

^^^^^^^ Perfect explanation.

S2 is at Tulane and loves it. Small classes, great profs, nice weather (though hot in September), really great social scene, and a fun city has affirmed the decision he made to attend. He chose Tulane over UW, UC-Berkeley, USC, UCSD honors, and others. All of which would have provided a great education, but he felt Tulane was right for him. And that is what is important, what feels right for you.
