Accepted to both schools. Love UW, but really can't affort out-of-state tuition. It would mean taking out major loans. But I think I would be happier here.

USC is offering to pay more than half of my tuition, and it has a better college of engineering (my intended major). I don't really like the location, but I suppose I could learn to live with it.

Anyone attend either of these schools and love/hate it?

For those in college - When you chose your college, did you go with your "gut" and attend the school with an environment that suited you? Did you choose the school that had a better academic reputation? Did you choose the school that was most affordable? Any advice?

However, if I had to choose between UW + heavy loans versus USC + half-tuition, I’d take the USC deal. You don’t want to start your adult life loaded down with debt.

You’re blessed to have two great choices. As you know, both are excellent schools, but for you, USC gets the edge academically since it’s strong in engineering. LA isn’t such a bad place, and after graduation you could move to Seattle debt-free.

I am a recent freshman-aged transfer student from USC, who is from Seattle originally, and am now a freshman at the UW. My major is Biology and I’m thinking about double majoring in Communications…I think you really need to know that there are stark contrasts between these two universities. First of all, yes-the size of the UW is TWICE as big as USC, but when I got back I didn’t really notice since they were both so populated. Classes are considerably harder to get into as a freshman, but since I had sophomore standing from AP Credits, it was alright. In addition, I would say that a majority of the people at USC are into the high life-that is, partying, meeting celebrities, dressing nicely, but there are also a good handful of those that make it there through scholarships, or are just plain hard workers. The wealth-driven culture was too much for me…but if you are used to being around spoiled kids, I guess you might find it comforting. The UW can be just as fun, if you meet the right people. It might seem that the academic resources are a bit hidden or the TA offices neglected, but you can definitely find the help you need from Professor’s office hours or through the Department offices. My one token of advice, however: DO NOT GO TO Mary Gates Hall…they will probably ruin your future. Thank goodness I made it back to the UW!

it sounds like you were in the boat i was/am in. i got accepted into the UW business school as a freshman - apparently thats amazing…say my cousins and friends [i didn’t know]… but i got accepted into usc in the spring - my dream school. and i’m willing to wait, even though we got crap financial aid and whatnot.

i ended up choosing USC because of the overall experience they give you and how they train you for the future. plus the amounts of alumni and networking you can have access to is amazing. uw - is too big for me, most of the time you get taught by TA’s, and being from seattle, you always hear bad things that happen around, on, or near by the campus. not saying that watts in LA is any better… so i just wanted to get away… to establish more independence - which i’ve seen all my cousins do, and now their working for google, bayer [medicine], etc.

and if usc is giving you $$$ i’d take it! :]
