UW vs. USC

Accepted to both schools. Love UW, but really can't affort out-of-state tuition. It would mean taking out major loans. But I think I would be happier here.

USC is offering to pay more than half of my tuition, and it has a better college of engineering (my intended major). I don't really like the location, but I suppose I could learn to live with it.

Anyone attend either of these schools and love/hate it?

For those in college - When you chose your college, did you go with your "gut" and attend the school with an environment that suited you? Did you choose the school that had a better academic reputation? Did you choose the school that was most affordable? Any advice?

I went to the UW, and while it is very pretty, and the grad schools are top rated, your first couple of years of undergrad are going to be pretty factory-like. Huge lecture halls for most subjects, with classroom hours taught by grad students who really don’t want to be there.
That is why I am willing to pay private school tuition for my D, whose dream school is USC.
If you want engineering at the uw though, and are willing to do chemical engineering, I think the school of pulp and paper technology (part of forestry), still does a joint chemical engineering degree for which there are usually lots of free ride scholarships available, paid for by big paper companies.
