UWash (with scholarship) or NYU?

hi folks

this is my first post in the business forums. i don't really know much about this area so if something similar to this has been discussed before, i apologize in advance.

a friend is going through the MBA application this year. he was accepted to U Washington with a 10 000 scholarship. he was also admitted to NYU (without scholarship).

which of these schools should he choose? depending on the rankings, NYU ranks an average of about 15 places higher than does U Wash. is that worth 10 000 and NOT receiving a scholarship?

thanks.

Depends on what he wants to do. If he wants to work in investment banking and/or on the East Coast, NYU, hands down. If he wants to work on the Pacific Northwest (especially on the tech side), then Stern probably doesn't give him any advantages that UW can't.

thanks for the reply. sounds like pretty good advice. my friend is in the tech sector (so maybe seattle isn't a bad idea).

what about this quandary though...

USC (no scholarship) vs. UW ($10 000)

USC is ranked roughly 8-9 places ahead of UW

I second calicartel. Also consider cultural fit. UW (Seattle) and Stern (NYC) are very different environment. For me, Big Apple isn't a good fit so CBS and NYC are crossed out the list. If your friend hasn't been to campus, definitely attend the admitted student events (usually this time of the year). Unless your friend goes non-profit or qualifies IS tuition, the $10000 should not even be a factor.

I never visit Marshall (USC) but I suppose the same argument can be made about location. I heard that the trojans are somehow self-selected.

OP, I hope you won't mind throwing another pair others to comment.
Chicago GSB vs Johnson (Cornell) (Cost of attendance comes the same after factoring aids etc)

I would select Chicago GSB. I was in a similar situation - Cornell with $$ vs. GSB or Kellogg. I decided not to go to Cornell even though I'm positive I would've enjoyed it there.
