Hi everyone. I got accepted to UW about a month ago, and I'm really conflicted. I'm going to college for journalism, and am stuck between a few schools: UW, UMD, and Penn State. I've already been accepted to all three, two of which already in the journalism school. I know that at UW you aren't officially a journalism major until sophomore year, which is sort of making me hesitate going to UW. I really love UMD and its journalism school, but I know that UW is ranked higher. Can anyone give me some insight into UW's journalism school, and also tell me whether they think I should go to UW, UMD, or PSU? I'm also still waiting to hear back from Syracuse's Newhouse School, but I'm probably not going there. Thanks!

With WI you get the whole package - great departments of History and Poli Sci to augment an education in journalism. Even if you don’t get into the J School there are two student newspapers, local papers etc… for you to get experience.

Also, you can apply to the J school more than once as well:
