Best Journalism Program

I was accepted at Syracuse, NYU & Wisconsin-Madison. Which school has the best journalism program?

Any advice guys?

Syracuse is best for journalism, and then Wisconsin, I think. Syracuse is one of the top journalism programs, esp. in broadcast.

I like Syracuse but I love NYU. I mean I want a good education but I really love the city. My friends and family want me to attend NYU but I also like Syracuse. I don't know what to do!

NYU has a decent journalism program. Plus, you're in the city, where you're bound to make tons of connections and you'll have some really great opportunities for internships. (New York Times and others) If you want to go, go. I'm sure it'll be fun.

Lol I really do love NYU. It's not my dream school though. Damn that Northwestern!! But I've always had a thing for NYU.

Of the three, it would be Syracuse! Wisconsin and NYU are close, but NYU wins by just a bit.

Is there a qualitative assesment of these things? I love posts on CC like the one above. Not to attack the poster, I'm sure they have their own reasons for it, but people love to say "school y beats out x by a little" with no warranted explination, data or hard evidence, etc. The dangerous thing is that many students really VALUE these posts.

Top undergraduate journalism schools are Northwestern, Cuse, Ohio university, indiana, wisconsin, and unc... I'm sure I forgot some. This comes from the only UG ranking ive seen from the Gourman report

All are excellent schools and will provide a solid undergrad education. NYU offers the advantage of being in the media capital of the world. If you assume that your post-graduation career prospects will be shaped less by the brand name on the degree and more by the actual experience you get through internships, summer jobs, etc., I'd explore how each school helps the students develop these opportunities. Absent other information, I'd think NYU might offer the best chance to score some experience outside of campus-related publications, at least during the school year. If you are interested in broadcast journalism, Syracuse's Newhouse has a great reputation and, supposedly, a good alumni network. Regardless of the school, it's the caliber of your portfolio (or CD/DVD for radio/TV) and your experience that will make the difference in getting you that first real job. And after that, the school you attended will become increasingly unimportant as you develop a body of work.

Another issue is the kind of undergraduate experience you are looking for. Wisconsin will offer a traditional big-campus, Big 10 experience - plenty of school spirit and big football weekends. Syracuse will also offer a traditional experience. (Both of those schools will provide a true winter, if you are up for that.) NYU will be quite different, but if you like the idea of spending four years in one of the more interesting neighborhoods in Manhattan, it can't be beat. If you are into clubs or cultural activities, a 24-hour city, and amazing diversity, then NYU and the Village may be your cup of tea; don't expect a lot of rah-rah campus spirit, though.

I think asking "which is the best journalism program" is a good question, but is the wrong question in this case. These schools are quite different, and those dissimilarities will be of far more importance to your undergrad experience and career prospects than arguable variations in the quality of classes and profs.

if thoses schools are close with journalism program..i would pick nyu
but according to yo guys...syracuse seems definately better..
but i don't know
what you do is totally up to you//
