I’m a military dependent and I’m planning to use VA benefits while in college. I wasn’t accepted into my first major, so I was planning to use the benefits to get priority class registration for classes that weren’t in my major. The classes would be pre-reqs for my first major so I could petition after my first year. But while I was reading the VA benefits page, it says that “Requesting certification for units that will not count towards your program will result in an overpayment causing a debt to the VA.” I was wondering if successfully petitioned into my desired major, would the debt go away, or would I still have to pay for it? I don’t need VA benefits for payment because I have enough grants and scholarships from the state to cover tuition. I only need the benefits for priority registration, but I’m worried about the potential debt.
