u're SAT's make u ineligible for most of these colleges....but who know, u got great grades and EC's..

Really?
I know that Yale, Stanford and Harvard are big reaches. Best the rest of these are good match's, even safeties according to CollegeBoard. I will be re-taking the SAT's in October and trying the ACT as well. Thanks.

Hi,
I don't mean to be a pest...but could some people give their advice on my chances? Thanks very much!

You need to raise your SAT. That's what's bringing you down.

count. WOW, you got the IB Diploma? That must have been hard!

Two top from Ds HS did not get to Yale. Both were National Merit Finalists, one of them was #18 in a country. One went to Harvard, another to Middlebury. Small, private school with 100% of graduates going to 4 year colleges. SAT needs to be much higher.

Optional List | FairTest
Here is a list of schhols which do not require you to submit standardized tests if you have high grades.I have posted this before, but I think this is great for people like you who have everything but high test scores. I am not very familiar with schools in the west, but some of these eastern schools are top LACs, like Middlebury, Bowdoin, Bates, and Mt. Holyoke. Schools like Union or Hamilton in NY, and Franklin and Marshal or Gettysburg in PA are also very good. Check it out.

I think he's in everywhere except Stanford, Yale, Harvard. Definately in at ASU, SMU, and TCU. Don't know enough about anywhere else. Probably in at Chapman and Evansville. You are an impressive candidate, the val status is something that not a lot if these schools have. Take the ACT, retake the SAT, and look at test-optional colleges if you want to. Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, NC is test optional and a great college. Don't know enough about LACs to comment on them.

Thank you all for your help! I really appreciate all your advice. I am going to bring those SAT's up in the fall. Do you think I should try the ACT?

Absolutely. There is no reason not to. You might do a lot better. Different people do better on each test. My ACT score is 32, which is a 1430/2180 equivalent, but my SAT was only 1240/1930 (600 M, 640 CR, 690 W).

Thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate all comments and advice. :o)

bump! sorry i just need some valuable advice from all you CCers!

ok so lets start with the easy stuff and then we'll move up.

University of California, Davis: in for sure. safety
Chapman University: in
Texas Christian University: in with scholarships
Westmont College: haven't really heard of this one, but safety prob
Point Loma Nazarene University: haven't really heard of this one either, but safety again
University of Evansville: haven't really heard about it but safety?
Arizona State University - Barrett, The Honors College: safety
Pepperdine University: safety
Southern Methodist University: safety

ok harder now:

Stanford
Harvard
Yale

first of all, maybe shorten the list of matches and safeties and apply to more ivies. you're in for sure at cornell and probably brown.
ok so for the 3 above, I think you know what you have to do. but in any case, i'll still say it. Make sure you voice yourself in those essays. There are tons of applicants with your stats, make yourself stand out in any way possible. that's the only thing left for you to do to get into those. good luck

Every bit of your stats are great, but your SAT is really weighing you down for Harvard, Yale, and Stanford. Remember almost everyone that applies to those schools has the same stats as you. I would say you can get into every college on your list, but Harvard, Yale and Stanford will be reaches. Try to bring up your SAT score and then HYS should be a match.

Does any of the brilliant CCers have any suggestions on any colleges that would be a good fit for me? I am interested in majoring in Creative Writing and specifically Screen Writing. Thanks for any suggestions :o)

Yale University-Raise SAT and yout in for sure
Harvard College- Raise SAT and yout in for sure
University of California, Davis-IN
Chapman University-In
Texas Christian University-Saftey
Westmont College-?
Point Loma Nazarene University-?
Stanford University- Raise SAT and yout in for sure
University of Evansville-Easy saftey
Arizona State University - Barrett, The Honors College-match
Pepperdine University-raise sat and in
Southern Methodist University-in

um....Just to be realistic, even with perfect SATs, I don't think it's accurate to say that anyone is in "for sure" at Yale or Harvard, and probably not Stanford. That's the real world, sorry. I'm not saying you shouldn't apply--you should if you want to go there. But with acceptance rates as they are at top schools, every year you see people here on CC that weren't accepted with top stats... That said, I agree with everyone else who has said that you really need to bring your scores up, and taking the ACT is a good idea, too. Good luck!

thanks for all comments and suggestions! I really appreciate your time and advice. :o)

IB diploma, huh?

Your scores are all that are holding you back!

I think if you work on your SAT, maybe try the ACT with a little prep in either, you can have a great chance at a lot of these schools!

good luck
