Valedictorian Planning to go to Community College

I didn't do any ECs in solely 9th grade. To clarify things for those who were not able to follow along: what I mean by the number + the hyphen is the grade in which I first was involved to present. However, in attempt to save time and energy I left out the "present", as I assumed people would be able to get my point.

On my applications I am not including all of my ECs, except those I am dedicated and active in, such as MUN, ICC, the newspaper, volunteer work, and the research I have done over the past two years, along with a few others. Secondly, many of you may view me as a "transcipt leech," without having any knowledge of how much time I spend in the aforementioned organizations - which is just about as much as everyone else. However, for this I do not blame you as I'm sure the post wasn't clear enough.

And to those that are unaware of my gender - I'm female.

And thanks for calling me corny Rach, I wasn't trying to be funny :). I was just trying to play on the other thread titles I've seen because they make me laugh - not because they're funny, but because they're corny. I never knew mocking thread titles was representative of one's persona and disposition.

Also, thanks for clearing things up for me Business_Freak. I don't need a lesson in spelling, glucose. As much as you may doubt my intelligence, I think I'm capable of spelling my ethnicity.

Well uh she said what I was going to say so nvm

Quite curious as to why you made a new account, though..

Because I killed my first account after I realized how futile posting a thread at this place was, but in order to clear things up I re-registered.

Ah, that would explain things. I think half the replies to your threads were either 1. bitter responses to your sarcasm/fake thread title or 2. sarastic posts themselves. Your chances at top schools are alright, but you don't really stand out in any way. Right now, your ECs are just a laundry list, so it's hard to tell how much you've really done. Other than that, good job on your SATs and good luck on any SAT IIs you plan on taking! You have a couple of reaches in Cornell and Columbia, a couple of matches in NYU and JHU, and three safeties in SUNYs/Fordham. I'd actually not apply to Fordham if I were you and apply to another reach or match.

Way too many ECs. Adcoms has said countless times that it is better to have a few ECs that brings out your passion than a hundred that is just...there.

As I said before, not all the ECs are going on the application :). I'm putting a maximum of 5 (the ones which I really love and the ones where I have influenced people/community), even if I'm involved in all of them.

I put them all down in fear of some self-absorbed creaturesque being yelling into my ear claiming I don't have enough. Turns out that sort of worked against me, ay?

And now that my business here is done, I'll be back in another few years once I actually become a senior. I'm a sophomore, and I just wanted to have a relative idea of the situation I will be in. The grades were mostly formulated through prediction and comparison. Sorry if this annoys some of you, but I wanted to know since it has really been stressing me out lately.

If it really gets to you, feel free to character-bash me/flame me/berate me in future posts. I didn't mean to "troll" as some of you may call it, but having a general idea of what I need to improve and/or do in the upcoming years will give me a head-start so I don't get shot during the admission's process. Neverthless, thank you all for your time and delete this thread if need be.

What the hell are you people talking about? Dude has a 2330, superb grades and fine ECs. He's a lock at all but the ivies, has very good shots at Columbia and Cornell and even Harvard isn't out of the question. (assuming he actually does what he plans on doing)

goin back to the bangali/bengali, im bengali, and i spell it bengali, or bangladeshi, but aright, guess im wrong,

Well somebody is wrong here!

guguru is wrong.

i already said im wrong

The guy admitted he's wrong....cut him a break...

Anyways, to the thread starter, why did you even post here as a sophomore? You want to know your chances? NEar none to those colelges since you're missing out on 2 years of high school. Honestly, I bet you didnt even get a 2300+ on your SAT yet. Rather, the majority of your stats that you posted are probably predictions of what you are going to do in the future 2 years... They mean nothing. Its understandable that you want to do all those things, but in your next two years, youll find out that it's near impossible.

The guy admitted he's wrong....cut him a break...

lol thanx

you're only a sophomore; don't worry about college admissions until ur a senior..focus on getting good grades and maintain some extracirriculars but dont go OD

wats OD????????(ten w

there's a lot of hate in this thread, and i just wanted to take a moment to appreciate the title. i mean, who didn't almost $*** a brick when they saw that?

If you were in a better state (college wise), you'd probably be in everywhere.

uh oh, looks like a nerd fight

Cut the ECs when you send it in to only list the ones you really spent time on. Organize them by category, don't just list them.

As for chances:

Cornell: 70% in
Columbia: 50% in
NYU: 100% in
SUNY Stonybrook: 100% in
Fordham: 100% in
Harvard (ha-ha): 20% in
SUNY Binghampton: 100% in
JHU: 70% in
Should I apply to anything else?

1) Don't send the ACT! It makes you look worse.

2) You have WAYYYY too many safeties, do you really need to apply to all of Fordhamn, Binghampton, and Stony Brook when NYU is a safety? One of those three is good enough. You have some good matches (Cornell and JHU) but are weak with only two reaches (Harvard and Columbia).

Lets say you dump three of the safeties and refocus on the reach part. I think you'll end up at Columbia, but why not apply to tow of Brown, Duke, Penn, Dartmouth with the two extra applications you now have.

Now take that last application and REACH with it. MIT, Princeton, Yale, Stanford. They are realistic.

Don't shoot yourself in the foot by applying to too many safeties and ignoring the much more important reach category.

Binghamptonsafety
stonybrook-safety
nyu- almost a safety
cornell-match
columbia-match
jhu-safety/match
Harvard-Reach, you have all the stats but you now how harvard is
