About half of the valedictorians are really smart at my school. To be valedictorian, you only need a 4.0 GPA and no classes are weighted, plus, GPA is determined by A=4, B=3 and so on.
There are probably 15 ish valedictorians at my school and 8 or 9 of them have had more than 2 AP classes. Of course, though, theres always the valedictorians with audited classes and band, choir and foods class... they should not be counted as "the best of the class" because of their easy class load

o yea...fascinating, I see the correspondence between all of our schools

One of the Vals at my school is probably the smartest. She's smart naturally and she works hard. We had many classes together and I rarely beat her. But I do abuse my authority power to get her to do stuff all the time and yell at her whenever I can to make me appear smarter. If other students from my school were asked this question, they might say their Vals aren't as smart as me. So don't take this thread too seriously. Vals are vals for a reason.

Our val is smart, but I wouldn't put her as the smartest. She has a nice combo of hard-working and smart.

keep posting ppls

Ha, we don't have class rank. At all.

If we did though, I'd rather have someone who truly worked hard than someone who was just naturally smart be val.

epic, good discussion guys keep goin!

When I found out who the graduating class's val was I was pretty surprised. I'd never even heard of this guy and I know a lot of seniors. I knew the sal but didn't expect her to to be it. Our school is really secretive about this stuff. Like we don't have ranking. Perhaps they skipped regular classes so it wouldn't be averaged in their GPA? Yeah but val and sal doesn't really mean much since all you do is get your picture in the newspaper....

yeah deff duh why do you think vals are rank 1 guyss? rank ONE? hello? duhhh? it means they r smarter thn everyone else DUH lol i can tell none of u guys are vals lol

HAHAHHA go away CT
also IM me
my keyboard doesn't work

Our valedictorian is the dumbest girl in the entire school.
She's crazy-religious and only does her homework because the Bible says she should listen to her mom and dad, and her mom and dad tell her to do her homework.
She lacks all common sense.

^ As if listening to your parents was a bad thing?

I'm sure we all dislike fundamentalists to some degree but she can't be the dumbest person in the entire school if she is capable of getting straight A's.

Our valedictorian is really smart and is going to Harvard. He managed to get the position even though he received 1 B in his high school career. He cried and was severely depressed for about a week after that report card. Overall he's a pretty cool guy. He's Chinese and pwned all the Koreans in his class :p

^ nice lol thats funny

My school isn't very competitive, so the intelligence of the valedictorians really depends on the class. We had 3 vals in the Class of '08. One of them was this math genius kid who took like every college math class before his senior year in high school. He's super smart but socially weird and kind of obsessive.

The second val was this tiny kid who I always see at the local library. I never knew he was that smart, but he's probably one of those closet genius kids building chemistry experiments in their rooms. He was also socially awkward.

The last val was a friend of mine who ran on my cross country team. He was kind of smart, but more of a hard worker than anything. He was really into band and his other extracurriculars, so I never realized he was that into school.

IMO the smartest kid in that class was the salutatorian, a girl who got a 35 ACT and went to Johns Hopkins. She would have been val but apparently she got a B in some Physics course along the way.

My class (class of '10! woo) is loads more competitive. At this point, there are still 10-12 people in the running for val, but it will probably get whittled down to 4 by the time we graduate. A bunch of the kids are just super-studiers (example, this girl asked me how many hours I put into studying for one math test in 9th grade. I had barely studied one hour but she proudly told me she studied 18 hours. We both got the same grade on the test.) but there are some really smart kids in my grade.

I really hate kids who lie about how much they study. One of my best friends studies his butt off but he won't admit it to anyone and acts like he just naturally gets 100% on everything. I wish he'd just own up to all the studying, lol.

My school's val wasn't the smartest person. The smartest girl was ranked #4 and would have been val but she transferred to my school when she was a soph., so her credits/GPA were all messed up.

lol our school has between 15 and 20 valedictorians >_< kinda destroys the purpose. which basically means that with my one B+ in frosh year, I will be ranked around 17 or 18 in my class of 600+ xD

yea i hate that.
student who suppresses his hard work ethic: How much did ya study d00d?
me:uhh none i dont really care
student who suppresses his hard work ethic: o I dont care either I didnt even know we had this test today

post-test

student who suppresses his hard work ethic: dangit got another 100 on my AP calc ABCDEFGHIJK exam.
me: o i got a 90 with no work at all good game loser.

I think grades only have a very loose correlation with a person's level of intelligence.

How is it possible ever to study for a math test? I only open my math book when I do my hw (2/5 days-ish). I've never understood how you can study for a math test...it's weird. I've tried it once, failed the first 10 seconds.

18 hours...that isn't humanly possible.

humanely Invoyable.
