My school's val's arrogant and shows off his smartness all the time. And whenever you get in an argument with him, he debates and debates until you get really tired of him.

humanely Invoyable.

Aside from the fact that I'm LOL'ing pretty hard about the fact that you're correcting me about spelling and took the time to type it, as well as the way you presented it,

I'm sorry to inform you that I meant humanly. At least know what you're correcting...humanly works fine.

It depends upon how you measure intelligence; if we go off of something like Gardner's various categories of intellect, then a number of people fit the bill (not to mention that even with those categories, intellect is nigh impossible to measure/quantify and therefore compare), so obviously our val cannot be those multiple people, thus excluding him from being "smartest."

Off of my gut, though, I would say no, the Val is just some random person (we don't rank anyways) and so is left up to the whim of the faculty.

this year my school valedictorian was caught cheating and nothing was done.
Although he is the smartest in the grade, most of the times the valedictorians are just people who never do anything else except study and read...bleh.
I believe there are a lot of smarter people who don't try as hard and cry every time they get an A- instead of an A but they are more well rounded
and i'd pick that any day!

the REAL valedictorian in my school was also caught cheating, and didn't get honored at the grad, ceremony :> pwn?

my class's valedictorian is only number one because she took all the AP's and got A's in the class... she didn't even pass any of the exams. >_>

Our valedictorians are mostly hard-working... They're not the smartest, they aren't particularly bright, but they have good grades and are well liked by the teachers. A lot of people don't try to reach their full potential. But here, they're mostly the ones that study all night long and aren't involved in anything. I know someone who usually has A's, but if you ask her a question one week after the exam, she won't know the answer!

cherie, sometimes the smart kids "pretend" not to know the answer because it is annoying to explain it so many times.

I have done that myself to get out of answering questions. It doesn't mean that she doesn't know the answer, just that maybe she doesn't feel like explaining it to you that day?

Yeah, I know the trick, I do it all the time... My teachers have to explain my answers sometimes. So I know what it feels like. :) It happens to me three or four times a year, when teachers try tricky questions and ask me because they want to prove something.

But the thing is, that girl is my friend, but she crams 1 or 2 days before the exam and doesn't fully understand the concepts. Long-term memory don't quite remember what she learned. I'm the one who usually help her study and answers her questions. But I understand how my answer could have sounded like.

Right now, my class's valedictorian is a rude, obnoxious boy that no one likes. He's not very smart, but he makes enough to get A's. I would say there are plenty of people smarter than him.

I am in sixth rank and I've made 6 B's, it doesn't take much at my school to keep a high rank so long as you take challenging classes. I really don't care about my grades so long as I'm in the top ten.

Neither of us really study to get good grades and we both always get the same grades. We are constantly competing in our AP classes for the past two years. We both are always getting the top grades in the class. I just have a bad habit of skipping one to two assignments in a class that I don't want to do and sometimes I underestimate how many points it's worth in the class.

Haha you guys crack me up :)

I'm the val of my class of 610~ and there are some pretty smart kids, but it really comes down to subject area. We have this ******* kid (#3?) that is a music genius, a complete nerd (#5) that is a math/science genius, and we got stuck with me the writer/social sciences buff. Of course, i'm cold and calculated so I learned quickly how to play the system :P

She's failed most of the AP tests

I would have thought that the top students would be the ones with the top grades in the AP classes, and they would do very well on the AP tests?

anybody else have input?

Yeah, our val is my best friend. He's a witty kid, but definitely not smart. The girl who was val until this year is pretty dumb. I see her alot at parties on the weekend (she and I are the only people in the top 20 who go to parties...).

I know that my work ethic is holding me back, and there are several other people in the same situation.

Val=Work Ethic

val at my school....
no one though it would be her, I mean she doesn't even do her work...I've had her for a few classes
but...she did go to a middle school that gave her credit for a bunch of classes meaning she could take AP's as a freshman
and she is nice...she's just ghetto...lol

Our valedictorian is always someone who tries the hardest, not necessarily the smartest person.

Can I post on my middle school Val and Sal?
(Im going to be a freshman in H.S).
My schools Val. is def. not the smartest. I am. =)
She was extremely hard working, unlike me...I started to slack off in the 7th grade.
But she deserved it, even though she hated school.
My sal. is a loser who nobody likes. Hes a little y gossiper and I admit he is smart but he's a *, but who isn't? hehe
I didnt get Val. because my behavior was unsatisfactory according to my school, but they all hate me because I don't keep my mouth shut about how much the school sucks and I emberass my principal on many occasions, focusing on his stupidity.
In the end, I didnt get one lousy award during the graduation ceremony, but thats ok because Im not going to drop out or get pregnant (how is that even possible).Im sure 99% of my class will.
Its funny how Im going to one of the best schools in the U.S and they are all going to public school, except 2 who are going to a catholic school.
I HATE MY OLD SCHOOL! ITS PIECE OF BIG UGLY *! THE GRADUATION WAS RIGGED I TELL YOU, THOSE PEOPLE HATED ME! BASTARDS, SICK ULGY BASTARDS, I DESERVED SOMETHING! BUT I SHOWED THEM! HAHAHAHAHA, THEY ARE SO JEALOUS OF ME! ALL OF THEM, ENVY I TELL YOU, ENVY!
I just needed to vent a bit. Hehe
Well anyways.....yeah thats my little story.
=)

I think part of being smart is working hard. The subject material in high school (even APs and I assume IB) was not hard. Doing homework is not a huge task; any reasonably intelligent person should have no problem doing all of it. Being named Valedictorian is a huge honor, as long as it is obtained without cheating. So, while all of you sit around typing away on a message board about how you are the smartest in your class but aren't in the top quintile, the valedictorian has earned an honor that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.

It's middle school...I don't know a single person that has actually worked during those times.

Shove it Silver.

lol.^

We don't rank, but we all gossip about grades (neeeerdy). Anyway, the girl that gets the best grades is clearly not the smartest, but she studies a lot. Then again, she wants to grow up to become a Christian missionary and isn't obsessed with college, intending on taking only 3 APs in junior year (4 less than my 7). So, that takes down the competition greatly. Acutally, most people are taking 5 AP's in junior year at my highschool. So I'm doing pretty well.
