Valid MLA?

I am writing a paper for English, and I'm wondering if this is proper MLA formatting:
It is only once Beloved’s presence is gone and Paul D is there to keep it away that Sethe feels it is possible for her to have a life, to survive: “Sethe looked to her left and all three of them were gliding over the dust holding hands. Maybe he was right. A life” (56).
Thanks!

Is that the first section you’ve quoted in the paper?

Yes, but the paragraph mentions which book it’s coming from.

Note: I am not an English person or a good writer, so don’t judge anything past formatting. :-P

Ok, but for the first one it should be…

It is only once Beloved’s presence is gone and Paul D is there to keep it away that Sethe feels it is possible for her to have a life, to survive. “Sethe looked to her left and all three of them were gliding over the dust holding hands. Maybe he was right. A life” (Morrison 56).

The rest of the quotes after should be just the page number.

Let me check something really quick though.

If you directly quote it, you should put the author and the page number every time unless the author is mentioned in THAT sentence.

If it’s a paraphrase, you can do something like (author pagenumber-pagenumber) at the end of the paragraph.

If you can, you may want to check exactly what your teacher wants because teachers do have different ‘styles’ of MLA.
