We are trying to get this figure because we have appointments and aren’t able to get the answer from anyone. We also would like to know the value of the Prep School. We have the exact figures for West Point and the USAFA since we’ve had kids get those appointments over the past several years. The USNA and its Prep School value has been allusive at best.

It’s allusive because it is literally impossible. What you get from the other academies is simply a bogus math division exercise, i.e. the WP budget divided by bodies. But at others have noted, it cannot factor in body counts. Nor do they factor in the payback value of both active and reserve duty years. Remember, there is no “pay back” factor in scholarship.

I realize this does not provide the contrived answer being sought for a school’s awards ceremony and/or brag brochure. And a SA appointment well merits bragging for all who’ve contributed to the development and process of the appointee. But unless you can factor in 5 years and more of required service and the cost of lives lost in the course of that? It’s futile.

You’ll likely come up with a $ figure that will satisfy. Just realize that the # isn’t really the #. It’s make-believe.

West Point doesn’t have an ‘exact’ figure either. Since you don’t pay a tuition at any of the military academies, how you calculate the ‘value’ of an appointment is arbitrary. Even if you could determine some arbitrary value, what would you use it for???
